Make counts of 100 squares or forms
at each of five points of the field.
These points should be porperly diuLTlbuted
in order to represent average
conditions. One point should be near
each corner and one near the center
of the field.
Examine the squares or forms on
the plants, not on the ground. During
Bach county of 100 squares pull off
those that are punctured but let those
not punctured remain on the plant.
The punctured squares may be put
in a smali sack After tho count at
cac*! point has been completed, the
punctured squares should be counted,
recorded, and then discarded so that
:ney wi not confuse counts at otner
[>oiats At the completion of counts
it the l.ve points, fin average percentige
of punctured squares should he
made.
To simplify this work a hand tally
counter may be bought. This little instrument
can be used to great advantage
in so far as it does all the
counting by just pressing a small lever
with the finger as each square is
counted. It saves much head work,
rhese tally counters can -generally bo
obtained from hardware stores.
In making the counts at each point

With these two mottoes in mind,
every undesirable animal should be
culled from the herd and sent to the
butcher. A breeder can have no better
advertisement than to have it
ktown that he sends the inferior animals
in his herd to the butcher and
offers for breeding: purposes only
those animals that have good conformation
and are well grown for
; their age. Inferior animals will often
cause prospective purchasers to
have doubts and1 to fall out with the
particular breed.
