tenure in office, in the event that she

It is a hopeful sign. Legislatures j
are not and have not been just what j
they should, and The News has an f
idea that material improvement will
be shown when the women, in appre- ^
clublc numbers, become members. We ^
heard Senator Lee Overman, of North
Carolina, say in a speech a good
many years ago that some of the best ^
work is done in tne legislature t>y j
voting "no," and women can certainly
do that as well as men. (It migh. be
added, if necessary, that they can
vote "yes" with more intelligence than
men often do.) We heard Brs. Val- r
entitle, of Virginia, say, in an answer ^
to a thrust that "politics is too dirt> ^
for women to get into," that "the s
women are going to clean up politics. ]
It's true that a house would become (
too dirty to live in, if it were never .
cleaned up, and we accept Mrs. Val- ,
entine's statement at true value. (It (
may be necessary, however, to estab- {
lisli a steam laundry.) .
We have an idea, a serious idea,
that women are going to make good ,
in office, and, since we aspire to' no
office ourselves, we are glad to see
tlieni coming into it.?Lancaster News.
