""South Carolina Plan" lor the devel
opment of pur natural resources and
adisntsgss, is attracting wide-spread
attention. Inquiries regarding It hare
come from several southern states and
from Oregon, where preparations for
a.xnoyement of similar purposes are
hsing msda. ...
The South Carolina Plan la that
which has been devised by the South
Carolina Development Board. Its out- '
Standing feature is the use of special
oOmiUlaslohfc for the prosecution of
particular undertakings. These commissions
will be composed of men peculiarly
suited to handle the specific
tasks given .them, by reason of their
knowledge, interest and ability.
The -whole theory at m special comaalfslQQ
Is that a group of men who
want a particular thing done will work
harder and more Intelligently for that
thing than would those whose Interests
mifcht lie In other directions.
Special commissions which hare
feeen suggested partly as a result of
the year's Activity of the development
board and largely in meeting a demand
lor a comprehensive program for the
immediate future are the following:
Markets.
Live.stock and live atock credits.
Live stocii sanitation.
Grains, grasses and forage,

New York,- June 14.?Circum- i
stances upon which American soldiers
are to bo returned from overseas were i
described tonight by the Atlaatlo di- 1
vision Red Cross headquarters in a 1
statement issued with the authority 1
of the chief cemeterial division of the- :
war department. It read: 1
"There are those conditions under
which bddies will be brought back. ]
They are:
"1. All bodies of deceased sol- :
diets that are buried In Germany,
Luxemburg or Northerti Russia are ,
to be brought back, to this country
whether the relatives want them or '
not.
"2. In other countries, except
France, they are jto brought back
unless the relative request that they *
stay there. \
o. riiey are to oe brought back:
from France only at the request of
the nearest relative."
NUMBER OF AUTOS.
Of interest to the average cor owner
is the total number of motor driven
vehicles in the United 'States and the
comparative number of passenger
cars and motor trucks. Out ofvipproxlmately
7,000,000 motor vehicles, 660,000
are used for commercial purposes?passenger
cars outnumbering
motor trucks by more than ten to one.
About 375,000 trucks are equipped
with pneumatic tires, snowing the tremendous
strides made by the pneumatic
in the few years since its development.
That 275,000 trucks are
running on- solid tires indicates that
this and the cushion type will always
have a certain field where superior
traction and cushioning powers are
not necessary.

Mr. Charles W. McCravy, who has
recently made a trip through Newberry,
Lexington and Richland states
that he found crops in very good
Bhape. although about two weeks late.
Good stands, very little grass, crop
well worked and plenty of corn planted,
is a summary of his observations.
He says that about the same conditions
prevail in Laurens county except
that he doesn't see enough sma'.l
grain and not enough corn planted.
