neighbors' homes. At one he killed
a man in the sight of his children
and at the other fatally wounded an
18-year-old girl and probably mortally
injured her mother.
SHORTAGE OF TOBACCO

here today over the shortage of tobacco.
Tobacco stores were attacked
by the populace and when gendarmes
appeared there was fighting, which
was subdued only after the arrival of

Probate George S. Drafts, the ceremony
being witnessed by only a few
friends and relatives. The young
couple are making their home with

Miss Myrtle Wise and Mr. Allison
Redmond were married Dec. 24 by
Magistrate Martin. Their friends
wish them a prosperous and happy
journew through life.
Mrs. David Livingston spent the
holidays with Mrs. O. D. Corn at
"Woodford.
Miss Irene Sharpe, who has been
spending the holidays here, will soon ^
return to her home at Ulmers.
Mrs. Lizzie Yon, her daughter and
sons are spending the holidays with
her sister. Mrs. Nellie Jeffcoat.

I appreciate your public spirit in
opening your columns for the discussion
of how to obtain good roads.
Can't you make the people see that
good roads are economy in the long
run. They make for happiness in
the promotion of sociability, and prosperity
in the facility with which business
may be conducted, and these two
make for long lives. If automobiles
are to be taxed for the upkeep of
roads, which is the custom here,
why should not other vehicles be taxed
also? While I am not a resident of
Lexington county at present, I own a
little land there, and would welcome
a tax on it for the purpose of building
! good roads.
