QUARANTINE STILL ON
COTTON SEEP HELLS
$' } *
i i
Clemson College, Nov. 2&.?The
quarantine on cotton seed hulls has
not yet been raised, says Professor A.
< ' Pi Conradi, of the State crop pest
commissi n.
* ; There seems to be some misund^r
standing- in reference to tne quaranv
tine on cotton seed hulls. The boll
"weevil settles down to winter quarters
after the first killing frost, but this
[ notion is not completed in a few days,
and in raising this quarantine the
Commission is forced to be guided by
the eoditions of the weevil and not
? by the occurrence of the first killing
frost. The boll weevil line on this
date (Nov. 21, 1919) runs through
' Anderson, Laurens, Chesterfield and
f.
Oheraw.
The regulations of the State Crop
**est Commission provide that the
quarantine on hulls he raised on Depk.
member 31st. For several years past
the (Commission was generally able,
\<% cowing to weevil conditions, to raise
ia?v
his quarantine at a much earlier date,
though last fall it was not possible to
V raise it before December 31st., and for
* some time it appeared that it would
.
. rot be possible to raise It even at that
> t Jane.
v-; V ;
The weevil at this time is settling
uown to winter quarters, but weevil
activity has not yet stopped. As soon
Br % v- f
as this has been completed, the quar
antine on, hulls will be raised, and noV*.
tification will be sent at once through
the press.

Council in this matter. It lies in the
fact that the Allies have notified
Germany that, before peace is consummated,
she must sign a protocol j
guaranteeing fulfilment of armistice

yet stated whether or not they will
sign this document. There seems to
