ANNUAL MEETINi
ASSOCIAT
Columbia. Nov. 15?Officers for the!
i 1
ensuing year will be elected and much j
other business of importance trans- j
acted at the annual meeting of the j
S. C. Cotton Association which will
be held here on Tuesday. December 2. j
v Officers of the association have a mat- j
ter of tremendous importance to sub- j
mit to the meeting-, they say, a mat- J
ter that will affect every farmer in,
the state. J
A tremendous attendance is ex- '
i
pected 011 the meeting. Every mem- j
her of the association in the state is [
invited to attend and there will be |
official delegations from each county, j
chosen by the various county associa- \
I
tions. , J
Addresses will be delivered, by a ]
number of prominent men. Officers!
of the association have invited a num.,
ber of men of wide reputations toj
speak but pending their acceptance1
of the invitations their names will not;
be announced.
Election of Officers.
Great interest centers around the
election of officers. J. Skc-ttowe j
Wanriamaker, who has been chairman I
of the soutn uarouna uotton Associa- j
tion since its formation, has an- j
nounced that he will be forced to re- j
tire from the head of the State Asso- j
elation in order to devote all of his J
time to the presidency of the^Ameri- j
' can Cotton Association. whi?? em
braces the entire belt. There is much [
speculation as to who will succeed Mr. j
Wannamaker at the head of the association.
A vice president and a treasurer
and a state executive committed will j
also be chosen.
* t
Present officers of the South Caro- !
lina Cotton Association are: J. Skot- !
towe Wannamaker, of St. Matthews, i
chairman; John T. Mackey, of Cam-!
den, treasurer; Julian C. Rogers, of
Columbia, assistant treasurer; Mrs.
H. R. Clinkscaies. of Columbia, secretary;
Harold C. Booker, of Colum- j
bia, publicity chairman; B. F.? Me- '
i Leod, of Charleston, state manager:
I J. S. Wannamaker, of St. Matthews; !
' J. H. Claffey, of Orangeburg. R. M. j
Mixon, of Williston; John T. j
Mackey, of Camden; W. \V. Long.:
Clemson College; T. J. Britt, of Mc- i
Cormick and T. G. McLeod. of Bishop- i
ville, central committeemen.
Much Accomplished.
In a letter sent to the various j
county chairmen of the state urging a ,
full attendance on the meeting here, j
Chairman Wannamaker review's some
of the things accomplished by the organization
of the cotton belt the past
year and touches upon the plans for
the future.
"Following in the wake of the or- j
ganization of the organization of the j
American Cotton Association in each j
section of the cotton belt," he says, i

ION DECEMBER 2
'comes the formation and putting
into effect and force the aims, objects
and purposes of which we are so
earnestly striving. As a result of the
work already Accomplished the entire
South has received untold benefits and
is today recognized as the coming
part of the nation. More warehouses
owned and controlled by the people
of Hid Smith have been built than at
any time since the War Between the
States; stock has been raised for the
erection of two cotton factories by
members of the Association; a three
million dollar corporation for financing
and effecting: direct sales of cotton
has been formed, and a great
amount of additional constructive
work has been acocmplished.
"As /a result of the work already
accomplished by the Americah Cotton
Association, we are receiving communications
from practically every
section of the world where cotton is
consumed, and from every line of the
cotton industry. Also, papers,
periodicals and magazines throughout
America, Canada and in Europe are j
carrying special articles concerning
the Association. We have just been
notified by several leading papers and j
magazines that they are sending
special representatives for personal
interviews for the purpose of giving j
special write-ups of the American Oot!
