D. Clark spent Monday in Cplumbia. Mrs. N. G. Gonzales of Columbia, is visiting relatives in Manning. -Mr. J. E. Kelley of Rock Hill, visit ed Manning last week. Mrs, English Plowden was a visitor to Columbia, last Saturday. Mr. S. W. Barron, who has been ill for the past week, has improved enough to be out again. Mrs. Marion Williams entertained yesterday afternoon in honor of Mrs. May Harrelson McCord, a bride of a week. Note change of hour of services of Episcopal church to 7:30 p. m. Sun day, October 1st. Public cordially in vited. There will be a meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary at the home of Mrs. Chas. B. Geiger on to morrow (Thursday) afternoon at 4 o'clock. The house of Mattie Luckey, color ed, was raided early Sunday-.morning by the city police force and about four gallons of "white mule" was seized. Ed Hatfield and Mattie were made to put up $100.00 bond each for storing whiskey. Died last Saturday "Aunt" Mary Harvin an aged colored nurse. "Aunt" Mary was well thought of by the white people, and especially the ladies of whom she had nursed a great many. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon. The aluminum sale held at Plowder Hardware Company's store yester day was quite a success. The sale was well attended and all- of the ware was sold. Another such sale will be put on in November. The W. C. -T. U. will meet Monday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. C. R. Sprott. All members are urged to be present as at this metMing the delegates for the State Convention will be elected. .Sunday Harrison Luckey and Viola - -who he boards with got in a 'r.-up, and Viola was severely cut oy Luckey. The officers were soon upon the scene and now Luckey is short $30.00 in his bank account. Dr. John A. Brunson, pastor of the Grace Baptist Church of Sumter, will preach at the Manning Baptist Church on Sunday, October 1, at 11:15. Dr. Brunson will speak on the Chris tian's freedom with respect- to the so called "Seventh day Sabbath." His message will be of interest and profit to all and especially to those who may have some question as to whether they should observe the seventh or first day of the week. A cordial wel come awaits all who attend this ser vice. Cothran's Independent Tobacco Warehouse closed the season in Man ning today with one of the largest sales of the year. Mr. Cothran has had a very successful 'season, being handicapped, in that he did not get a building until late, and then was forced to use some automobile garag es. After all he sold about 1,000,000 pounds. Next Sunday morning at the Pres byterian Church Mr. Leon G, PalmU' General Superintendent of Sunday School work in South- Carolina, will make an address. This service will b-. at 11:15 a. m., the regular preaching hour, and will be preceedced by the Rally Day' exercises of the Sunday School. Every one interested in the welfare of our Sunday Schools and young people's work, is invited to be present. A chorus of young people will be at added feature to this pro gram.
