VICYORY WEEK FOR S. C. COTTON ASSOCIATION Columbia, April 11.-This is "Vic tory Week" in South Carolina and all over the state intensive efforts are being made to secure contracts to the South Carolina Cotton Grow ers' Co-operative Association. Over 4,000 farmers who have already join ed the association have pledged to take the field this week and endeavor to have their brother farmers who have not yet joined to enlist under the co-operative banner. It is hoped to sign over 100,000 bales this week. Letters from prominent bankers all over the state strongly endorsing the association and calling on all bankers and business men to assist in p'itting the campaign across were re ceived by the association last week. "I am most heartily in favor of the co-operative marketing of cotton for the reason that it helps all those liv ing in the cotton belt," wrote C. G. Rowland, president of the National Bank of South Carolina at Sumter. "I tiincerely hope the campaign to organize the state may be a decided raecess. If the cotton producer has to buy from those who are organized and sell to those who are organized and he himself does not organize, who is the loser? What affects the farm er affects all of us." Clinkscales, president of the Bank of Anderson wrote: "I have gone fully into the plan of the cotton co-operative marketing association and most heartily approve of it. It appears to be a step in the right di rection and in my opinion it will prove beneficial both to the grower and buyer of this cotton. The assemb ling and classifying according to grade alone is certainly the most economic plan for marketing. Its distribution and sale as needed by experts is wise." APRIL FARM CALENDAR Prepare seed beds for cotton and corn thoroughly. Plant plenty of good sound seed of the best varieties possible to get good stands of both cotton and corn. Plant cotton only on good land. Reduce ctton acreage to where it can be well fertilized and properly cultivated. Animal Husbandry-Feed and take good care of brood sows which are suckling pigs. DUN S gether during the suckling period. It is better to keep them separate if possible. Do not fail to plant a sufficient acreage of feed crops to supply abun dant feed for the livestock. Dairying-Take milk cows off pas tures infested with onions four hours before milking. Continue feeding grain to milk cows on pasture. Early grass is mostly water. Plant corn or sorghum for silage. Plant other'feed crops for dairy herd. Remember that no livestock farming is profitable without an abundance of home-grown feeds. Plant Pathology.-Keep up the spraying schedule. Make each appli cation thorough and on time. Try delinting the cotton seed this year, if you have not already formed the habit. Get seed corn treated for diseases. The county agents or the Botany Di vision of Clemson College will tell you how to get it (lone free. Plant wilt-resistant tomatoes where the futgus wilt is in the soil. The Botany Division still has some seed of resistant varieties, free on request as long as it lasts. Watch closely for seed bed diseases of tobacco and report to the Botany Division, with specimens, if any is found.
