C., WED] REDUCTION MADE IN AGRICULTURAL BILl Washington, March 6.-An appro priation of $4,978,033 to meet ex penses of the Agriculture Depart ment during the coming fiscal yeai is recommended in a bill reporter today by the House appropriation committee. The total is $3,710,02( less than the amount appropriate( for the current fiscal year and $1, 544,835 less than budget asseimates Discussing the elimination fron the bill of the $360,000 carried last year for distribution of seeds by members of Congress the committec in its report said the budget bu reau in submitting estimates di not include provision for seed dis tribution. The item of $2,000,000 carried last year's bill for leans to farmers for the purchase of seed grain in drought-stricken areas had not been reported in the bill reported today, the committee reported that no estimate was submitted for the purpose. To Fight Tuberculosis The bill carries $2,578,800 for the eradication of tuberculosis in ani mals, $1,728,800 for the payment of indemnities for tubercular cattle slaughtered by the government, $600,000 for the prevention of the spread of moths, $547,840 for the eradication of the pink boll worm, $200,000 to prevent the spread of the European corn borer, $50,000 for eradication of the foot and mouth disease, $13,000 for wiping out parlatoria date scale, and $25, 000 for prevention of the spread of the Mexican bean beetle. For enforcement of the packers and stockyards act a $410,000 ap propriation is recommended while a total of $103,600 is carried for en forcement of the grain futures trad ing act. An appropriation of $6,532,000 is reconmnlen(l(l for the forest service but no provision is made for main tenence of an air patrol for which $50,000 was appropriated for the current fiscal year. Of this amount, the committee provides $150,000 may be used for ascertaining the cost of production of principal staple agri cultural products. The bill carries $39,000 for dem onstrations on reclamation projects, $400,000 for co-operative fire pro tection of forested watersheds of pavigable streams and $50,000 for the acquisition of additional forest lands, this amount being $950,000 less than the appropriation for the current year.
