Not lost, or a forced landing; just s
a pleasure trip. Having flown in a
most every county in the State of C
South Carolina, and after, having
picked it out of twenty-two (22) a
others wo have visited by air, ya
partner, Mr. Runser .and I, are now
fully convinced that this State is not
surpassed, even if equalled by any d
other in the Union, as a regular all
around place to live, offering most ti
any thing the heart can desire, in any
vocation, or walk of life.
As the guests of Mr. Sam Barron, ti
a prominent business man and sports- b
man of Manning, S. C., and the Black t,
Oak Hunting Club, of which he is
president, Mr. Runser and I are quite t(
sure that South Carolina possesses H
most any thing in the world. We 1
have studied the commercial possibili- b
ties, and we have now learned what ii
the big swamps contain, which we
have seen from the air many times, ft
and always pointing the nose of the ti
ship skywvard to got plenty of alti- .
tude before crossing, as they are not
very inviting for an airplane to land I
iln.
We accepted the invitation to go on i
the annual Thanksgiving bear and cl
(leer hunt over a month ago. So at .
the appointed time, we returned with
many curiosities in our minds, as we
had never experienced any hunting
of big game. I tried to picture a
deer or bear rushing through the
woods with a pack of (logs at his d
heels, and just how I would feel if
he was coming my wiay. Shooting a
gun loaded with buckshot was some
thing I had never experienced, as
the range is very different from that I
of a rifle, which I had learned to
use in the army, but not saying how m
well I could shoot with it.
Everything was set and we were
off for the Santee Swamp, early Mon- d.
(lay morning, November 21. After a
drive of several miles in Air. Plyler's i

we arrived at the edge of the swiamp. u

Now back to the story of the hunt,
