DESTJOY WILD CUCUMBERS; REVENT MOSAIC DISEASE Of special importance to cucumber pickle grower' is the discovery made y the United States Department of Agriculture that the wild cucumber is the principal means by which the mosaic trouble, comionly known as white-pickle disease, Is carried over from one season to the next. The seed produced on' i 'mosaic-diseased wild cucuipber carries the diseaso through the winter, causing it to re appear on -the wild plants the follow ing spring. Insects which feed first on the mosaic wild cucumbers, and later on the cultivated crop is nearby fields, carry the disease to the culti vittedl plAnts. Efforts are being made to have the wild cucumber eradicated from the pickle-growing sections, and preli minary tests have indicated that its removal will reduce if not entirely eli minate this 'serious, disease of cucum bers.
