We expected to han , out some uore "dope" this week- on our sub t of "unrest" but throygh the good ness of the friends of the Sunimerton page we will let this subject rest for a while at least. As long as we can get something better consequently with these items handed us and a few locals we are pretty sure we willl take up our space. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hatfield 1 ent the week-end with relatives in Florence. Capt. and Mrs. J. D. Bowen's of Sumter, were the guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Davis. Smith left here }Iogday morning for the former's home in Mississippi for a stay of some ten days. J. W. Guy of Lynchburg, President; J. A. Ansley of Summerton, Secretary. Nearly 125 delegates were enrolled from seventeen Sunday Schools, while let ters were received from ten. Addresses on subjects of much in terest to Sunday School workers were made by Rev. T. J. Watts, Mr. J. L. Corzine and Miss Elizabeth Nuckols of Columbia, and Revs. Alfred F. Ham, J. W. Guy. J| Sydney Cobb, J. A. E,'sley, and J. A. Ansley, ministers in the Santee Association. On Wednesday there was present a large delegation from the Men's Bible Classes of the Association. Mr. T. V. Walsh, of Sumter, addressed the Convention on a prtoposed Federation of Men's Bible Classes of the Associa tion, arousing a great deal of interest and considerable enthusiasm in his movement. The Convention voted to organize such a federation, and Mr. Walsh was elected President, with Mr. John Barwick Secretary. The first meeting of the Federation will be held at the meeting of the Laymen's Movement at Lynlchburg, on May 25th. On both Tuesday and Wednesday an elaborate dinner was served in the yard of the church. An ample sup ply was provided of everything good to eat. Before adjournment the Con , ontion, by a hearty and unamious standing vote returned thanks to the melLrs of Paxville Baptist Church and congregation for their cordial hospitality. A fter the election of F. C. Thomas as President and I. J. Bomar as See retary for the ensuing year, the Con vention adjourned to meet with the Manning Baptist Church on Tuesday and Wednesday after the third Sunday in April 1922. BILL FOR BUDGET Action Taken Without Record Vote Only Brief Debate-Measure Now Goes to House With Prompt Ac tion There Indicated. Washington, April 26.-Without a record vote, the senate late today passed the budget bill. Brief debate preceded the final vote on the measure, which was introduc ed originally by Senator McCormick, Republican, Illinois, passed by both the senate and house during the 66th congress, vetoed by President Wilson and then repassed by the house with the sections found objectionable by the executive stricken out. The sen ate, however, failed -to act on the measure after the president's veto. Tlie measure as passeI today now goes to the house, where prompt ac tion has beenl promised. The bill provides for a bureau of the budget in the treasury department to prepare the estimates of appro priations needed by the various de partmtent s. The bureau would have as its head a director of the budget, appoin ted by the presidelt with tihe consent of the senate for a term of seven years with anl annui al .-alary of $10,000. The offices of the comptroller and assistait com) ptrol Ier of the treasury would be abolished under the revised bill and in their stead oflies of comptroller general and assistant comptroller general wouhi he created.
