mittee.
Senatqr Christensen, chairman of the
fiintlce'committee, in connection with
the abpropriation bill and -the . pros
,pect of its being reported to the Sen
ate madethis statement.
"The appropriation bill was given
its third reading in the House Thurs
day, February 10, and was received
in the Senate at the morning session
and ordered printed. The following
morning the printed bill wias received
by the Senate but because of a imorn
ing hearing on the public utility bill
for which citizens from this and othe
States had gathered no consideration
of the appropriation bill could be had.
The Senate adjourned over after the
morning session untjl Monday night
of last week. Tuesday and Wednes
day the bill was taken up ani hear
ings were held at morning and after
noon sessions. Thursday morning the
Senate met at 9 o'clock for the judge
ship election, leaving only the after
noon (luring which finance commit
tee could meet. The appropriation bill
was then for the first time taken up
by the committee. Friday morning
was also ,taken up with the judge
shjip election. Tomorrow morning we
have the election again io Ave face
the. prospect of several more days of
on1ly one committee sessions."

Washington, Feb. 21.--President
Wilson is ,expected to recommend to
Congress before he leaves ojee that
authority be granted fo rthe United
States to accept German bonds to be
applied against the debt that Belgium
owes America, it was learned today
at the State Department.
While the United States is not com
mitted to any agreement. it was ex
plained that there was an understand..
ing reached at the Paris conference
that such recommendations should be
made .to the legislative bodies of Eng
land, Frdnce and the United States
It was incident to the claims of Bel
gium for priority in reparations and
was agreed' to by the representatives
of the three great powers as a prac
ticable means for an immediate light
ening of Belgium's financial burden.

William I). Coney, of the Ninety-first
Aero Squadron, left at 7 o'clock to
night from North Island aviation sta
tion, in an attempt to fly to the At
lantic coast within twenty-four houir.
The only scheduled stop in his 2,070
mile flight is at Dallas, Texas.
The aviator took a package of of
ficial mail from the commandant of
the naval air station to the command
er of the naval station at Pensacola.
Fla. He also carried letters frpm of.
ficers and men at North Island to ae
quaintances at Jacksonville.
Lieut. Coney carried as food four
pounds of chocolate and two hottles
of hot coffee, expercienced aviators
