MURDER CHARCED TO - HUSBAND'S JEALOUSY Search for Leroy Assumes Nation Wide, Proportions TATUM WANTED IN DETROIT Trunk Mystcry Points to Revenge as Motive, Says Birmingham Man. Detroit, July 26.-Search for Eugene Leroy, whose wife's mutilated body was found jammed in a trunk shipped from Detroit to New York, assumed nation-wide proportions today. Police in every large city of the country were asked to aid in the search after Patrolman Leo Trumbull, o fthe Detroit police department, had failed to identify a man giving tho name of Roy Millen and held by Chi cago authorities pending investigation its Leroy. . That jealousy and revenge played a part in the supposed murder is the reported contention of Allan A. Ta tum now in Birmingham, Ala., and \vho told police there he knew Mrs. Leroy intimately in Detroit several months ago. Tatum's name was writ ten on the trunk that contained the murdered woman's body. He expressed the belief, it is said, that Leroy may have killed his wife through jealousy when he learned that he had been in Tatum's company and that Tatum's name was used on the trunk with re venge as the motive. Detective After Tatum. A Detroit detective left today foi Birmingham to bring Tatum to this city', if possible, in an effort to throwu light on Leroy's whereabouts. A second trunk believed to have been sent to New York and to contain the vital organs of the murdered woman is being sought. Identity o fthe dead woman was es tablished, the police say, by Patrol. man and Mrs. Trumbull and othere who recognized clothing found in the trunk with the body as having be. Innged to Mrs. Leroy. A sweater which Mrs. Trumbull once had borrowed was among the clothing. Police investigation today indicated that Mrs. Leroy had been married pre viously to marrying Leroy. Home in Mississippi. According to information in the hands of the police, she was the di vorced wife of a Southern pugilist named Jackson. Her maiden name iE said to have been Katherine Dixon and her home was in Starkville, Miss. Tatum, the Birmingham linotype operator, who has figured prominently in the Detroit trunk mystery, said today that lie was eager to go to Detroit at once and give any information he could about the case. Tatum is technically under restraint by local police, but has not been locked up. He has been spending most of his time at police headquarters late ly, but tonight he was neither there nor at his residence.
