THE COTTON CLASSING
SERVICE TO BE CONTINUED
At a recent meeting of the Manning
Board of Trade the cotton grading
question was brought up iA regard to
the oming season and it was decided
that by all means this service should
be carried on in Manning for another
season.
Two thousand dollars had been rais
ed by public subscription and the
Board of Trade raised the remainder
at the meeting.
The number of classers in the State
will be about double the number of
last year and the classing service will
cover a good part of the State. The
Bureau of Markets at Washington and
Clemson College co-operating are be
hind this movement and it seems to be
growing in popularity as the results
are most satisfactory and beneficial
to the farmers in marketing their cot
to'n. The number or bales of cotton
classed in Manning last season rep.
resented about 85 or 90 per cent of the
total receipts received here and no
doubt there will be still more cott-on
classed during the season of 1920-21,
The classer here will be provided
with amplier classing rooms, a samp
ler and will receive daily quotations
from practically all the important spot
markets in the cotton belt as well as
the New York future quotations fur
nished every fifteen minutes during
the day.
From the fact that every bank and
most every business house in Mann
ing as well as numbers of farmers sub
scribed for this service, th 'axihuni
results can be obtained and it is be
ieved Manning will enjoy ia spot mar
ket as good as there will be in the
State.
Mr.. Henry MeRae who was here
last season will be here this year as
classer.
