INCOME TAX INfORAI1ION
The Federal Income Tax Seaso
opens today, with the distribution
the forms for personal returns froi
thb office of the Collector of Interne
Revenue, D. C. Heyward.
From now on until the bell kings'
the night of March the 15th; the ai
nual returns covering income for 191
will be figured out and filed by citizen
and residents, together with paymen
of tax due.
The burden of fulfilling this oblige
tion is laid by law squarely on ti
shoulders of those who are Americt
citizens or residents. Every perst
must determine for himself whethe
his net income for 1919, figured a
cording to the Revenue Law, was su
ficient in amount to require a return
If he is single, a return is require

or over. A widow or widower is clasw
ed as a single person. A man or w<

husband is also classed as a sing

If he was married and living wit
his wife on December 31, a return.

was $2000 or over. In his net incon
he must include that of his wife an
minor children, if any.
If a tax is due on his income, 11
must make payment with his returi
This payment may be made in whol
or in part of the tax due. At leas

The filing and paying must be don

ject to severe penalties.
Two forms are being distributed fc
personal returns. Form 1040-A is in
tended for use by a person whose n<
income does not exceed $5,000.000.
larger form, Form 1040, is intende
for each person having a net incom
in excess of $5,00. Both of thes
forms are now obtainable at the In
ternal Revenue offices and at som
banks and post offices.
It is urged by the Internal Revenu
Bureau that taxpayers obtain thei
blanks at once. Failure to have
blank form at hand for an elevent
hour return will not relieve a perso
of penalty for failure to comply wit
the law.
Each form contains instructions fo
preparing and filing the return, an
these should be carefully read an
strictly observed.
There is also provided a "wor
sheet" which should be used for mali
ing the original computations, an
which should be retained and preser
2d by the taxpayer.
Any person who is in doubt on th
point affecting his particular cas<
Thould bring such matter to the at
tention of the nearest deputy collecto
or Revenue Agent, who will rende

When the return is compl)ted, i
should be propvrly executed and in
mediately filed. Any Internal Revenu
3li(er will administer the necessar
'iath without charge,
ft i ointed Out that accuracyi
otmpiling the return is absolutel

this is equally imnipor'tant inl considei
