C. iruogh The Times GOVERNMENT MAKING MANY RAIDS ON RADICALS U New York, Jan. 2.-Between 700 and l 80 radicals were arrested tonight in r in greater New York as the city's t share in the nation-wide roundup of V sedition mongers and anarchist scar- s ried out by the federal government r on a gigantic scale. From 9 p. m. 'I until long after midnight an army of c federal agents ,reinforced by hundreds f of city policemen and soldiers raided the gathering places of men who have returned the hospitality of their adopted country by plotting to destroy its government an dinstitutions with n violence. One Arrest in Jacksonville Jacksonville, Jan. 2.-A Russian, A. h~ Wiseman, thirty years of age, was ar- s rested here tonight by Department of o Justice agents in a raid on headquar ters of the Communist party. At the same time the charter, minute book and a quantity of Communist litera tur were seized by the agents. The literature was found in the home of J. A. Adams, an A merican citizen, who is said to be the secretary of the com munist party in Jacksonville. Adams, who is ai machinist, Was not iolested. Over 300 Arrested Boston, Jan. 2.---l:ore than 300 al leged radicals had been arrested in New iEnglacd up to 10:30 o'clock i - night in raids conducted by agents of the Department of Justice, assiste! by local police. ILarge quantities of 7 literature were seized. Places in which raids were made, with number arrested, included: Nashua, N. If., 150; Springield 65-; Worcester, 110; 1lolyoke 9; lIwrence. -16; L.owell 30. A rrests were also made in hoston and in several Rhode Island| cities. At 9 oclock tonight Department of Just ice agents simultaneously started to close the net in on dozen cities. At the ollices of the department here it was said tha tthe drive was wholly successful. Said to Be Aliens The majority of those arrested were said to be aliens. Among them was Anafros Karalius, of Chicago. a Com. munist party organizer who was scheduled to speak at a meeting in Nasnua, N. II., tonight. Another was Adam Dulski, secretary of the Cam bridge branch of the party. At th'' partys headquarters on Washington street, Boston, twenty-four persone were arrested. Twenty-one men and three women were g-thered at Russia, ('onununist Hall, in Chelsea. Many Raids Conducted Indianapolis, Jan. 2.-Raids on all alleged radical headquarters in seven DIndiana cities were conducted tonight by federal agents cooperating with local police in the diirerent cities, it was sated tonight at headquarters of the department of justice here. The cities were Fort Wayne, South Bend, Anderson, Terre Ilaute, Vincennes, Clinton and Gary. No reports on the noimer of arrests made had been re ceived at the federal omhees up to a late hour.
