It is alleged that reely Holcombe, of. Cane creek, did ie shooting with a shotgun. Hinckle ras about fifty years of age and - a achelor. Sheriff Roark arrested Holcombe lhursday at Mr. George Holcombe's, sear the North Carolina line. ADMIRAL BOWLES RESIGNS Washington, Feb. 3.-The resigna ;ion of former Rear Admiral Francis '. Bowles as assistant general man iger of the Emergency Fleet Corpo ration was announced today by the shipping board. Mr. Bowles wrote to Director Gen eral Piez on January 25, asking to be relieved March 15. Mr. Piez accepted the resignation with expressions of regret and congratulations upon Mr. Bowles' work. The board's statement made public with the correspondence, said Mr. Bowles probably would re tain his connection with the board in some other capacity. 0 DELOUSING MACHINES CARRIED BY MECURIUS New York, Feb. 1.-It was a varie gated cargo that was carried to the relief of the people of the Near East on the Steamer Mecurius that sailed from this city last week. Thirty-five motor trucks, sewing machines, cooking utensils, thirteen hospital units with a great shipment of medical supplies; seventy-six x-ray outfits, food, clothing and sixty-five delousing machines were included it the cargo.
