hospital at Camp Jackson, has been

has accepted a position in Zeigler's

national bank in Clarendon county

Manning witnessed another se
vere storm last Friday night, but this
time we were more fortunate than a
great many places. This tornado
which swept over several states did
lots of damage, both to property and
lives. The damage in our town was a
few fences and trees blown down, and
most of the people lost a good night's
sleep. It was an awful night; the
wind blew a gale; the rain came down
in torrents and the lightning flashing
caused much anxiety among our peo
ple.
The Civic League will meet at the
Court House Monday afternoon, Jan.
21st, at 4 o'clock.

ed, -as plans and work will be discuss
ed for the new year.

The fifth district convention of the
Knights of Pythias was held here last
Tuesday night with Clarendon Lodge
No. 173. There was a good attendance
of delegates representing the lodges
in this district. After a highly inter
esting address delivered. by Grand
Chancellor W. E. Derrick of Orange
burg, the Grand officers formally in
stalled the officers elected by the lo
cal lodge for the ensuing year. They
