Our people can raise the price if they could only get the wood hauled to 'them. It is an impossibility to get ;'coal now, therefore, we .must rely on wood. The country people should come to the iescue of the town folks now, in the way of hauling wood to them. Fuel is scarce in Manning, in fact, some people are suffering here for the want of wood. Editor of The Times. I want to impress upon the people of the county the importancb of dis playing the Red Cross Service Flags in their homes. This flag is to be considered an emblem of the loyalty and patriotism of the members of the household in which it is displayed. President Wilson would like one of these Red Cross Flags shown in every American home and every man, wo man andl child in America wearing the Red Cross button. "Kaiser Bill" will then understand that the Ameri can people are behind the American army. I am expecting a supply of service flags and extra crosseh today or to morrow, as I received a letter from headquarters stating that the supply had been exhausted, but more were being printed and would be forwarded at the earliest possible moment. How ever, I regret to say that we will not be able to get in any more buttons until the first of January, when every member will be supplied. In a letter just received from Mr. Willis J. Milner, campaign menager for the South, he states that this shortage in supplies is due to the fact'e that all 'Red Cross chapters have set out to double their quota, and it'looks as if 'the demand for supplies will exceed, 'the expectation of the committee. ,While we have not the buttons to 'distribute and the flags are delayed, I idht to urge every worker not to slacken iin his" or her efforts, but on 'the contrary to give every person an opportunity t'o join. As a Christmas gift to the Clarendon boys now in the army, suppose we have a Red Cross Service Flag displayed in every home in the county.E.CHotn Car'apaign Manager.
