The actors all did well, but 1 the attendance was not as large as the teachers had hoped it would be. 1 Miss Bela Altman, of Galivant's Ferry, and Miss Bryan, from Bryan spent the Washington birthday vaca tion at the home of Mrs. M. S. Broad way, near town. Mr. Reynolds Ower, and family motored up to C.hesterfield last week for a visit to his father, the Rev. T. B. Oweni. Miss Hattie Herlong has returned to her school at Norway after spend ing a few. days at home. Miss Emily Broadway spent the past week-end at her home near town. M . Peter Hodge entertained sev eral of his friends na Wednesday evening with an old-fashioned chichen stew. Fish was also served, and everybody had a royal good time. Senator J. D. Grifith, of Saluda, was here last week visiting friends. He was at one time principal of the graded school. Mr. Joe Mims, Jr., has opened up a stock of groceries in the store ad joining his father, Mr. J. W. Minms. He expects to move his family here this week from Sumter. Mr. Robbie Bnrwick has returned to Charleston after spending a few days with his folks. Mr. Ally Geddings is the next to purchase a Ford touring car. Others are to follow suit. Mr. Peter Hlodge returned today from a visit to his brother, Joe Hodge, at Lamar. Mr. Clinton Jones, who once lived here, but is now in the employ of Oliver M. Burton Co., Brooklyn, N. AW the Southern Presbyterian Christian Endeavor Sicletles are to make special gifts (luring February to Beechwood Seminary, at Heldel brg, Ky., it would be appropriate to tell them something of the part the "young" South has already had in this object of Christiani Endeavor. About five years ago there came to 'Beechwood a young woman from North Carolina'. -Her heart was set upon China. 'But she was not yet old enough t-o go to tho foreinfield. Her spirit of service knew no bounds, she wvould do what she could while she waited. It was not long until she iad won all hearts in this mountain field, and school and town loved her. She never took her eyes off of her beloved China. At the state conven tion of Student Volunteers in Lex ington in 1912 it was this same "Miss Reeves", who led the whole confer ence through her personal influence. Whenever she spoke the others lis tened with singular interett to "that something" which they all recognized she had-it was her swveet spirit of consecration, all unconscious, and her wonderful vision. The following fall she returned to her Bleechwood. Later in the year a epidemic of typhoid fever broke out. It was Miss Carrie who wvent into homes where htey needed her. And she gave in this service her own life. In several weceks she' was stricken with this samue fever and died later in Lexington. But her life had told. Many of her class mates, he'r friends, her own family caught her vision. It will always be felt in China where friends have al readly gone. It is still felt at Hleidel berg. The "Carrie Reeves Dormitory" is one of her monuments today. The lives she touched are the others. What will Southern Christian En deavors add ? Jackson, Ky. Miss Kate McFaddin Dead. Columbia, Feb. 23.-The friends of Miss Kate Calbraith Mc~addin were grieved to learn of her death, which occurred here at noon today. She has nma'ny friends in Columbia, where she spent a large part of her time during the last few years. She is survived by six sisters, Mrs. Ben Hiar-. yin, Mrs. John Brogdon, Mrs. JTetton Nettles and Mrs. Marcus Plowden, of Harvin; Mrs. Alford Burgess, of Sumter, and Miss Maggie McFaddin, of Columbia, and two brothers, -Mr. A. D. McFaddin, of Columbia, and Mr. J. D. McIaddin, of Harvin. The body was taken to Harvin, where the funeral was held. Missing Americans.
