The Doctors! Patient By H. M. EGBERT (Copyright, 1915. by W. G. Chapman.) When Aunt Sally, the black serv ant admitted a tiny boy into Doctor Carter's office, the old physician at first saw nobody. Then, looking down, he saw the dark hair and sunny eyes of his own wayward boy, Harold, as he had been at six, and as he always would be in his memory. For of Har old Carter at twenty he never consent ed to think. "Hello! What's your name, sonny?" I he asked. "Harold, please, grandfather!" e "What!" cried the doctor, jumping p out of his chair. p He had d-stined his son for his own - profession, but folly had succeeded s folly, and at last there had been a p scene at the end of which the doctor * ordered his son from his presence, p never to enter it again. Harold had 4 complied-twelve years ago. Perhaps if his wife had been living s the old man's heart would have yield- -j ed in the end. Indeed, it had softened, p and often and often he had deplored e the loss of his only child. But his pro- p fessional cares absorbed all his time p and left him little for mourning. He o was the best loved doctor in a south- -C em city, and the most sought after. 2 Now and again, at intervals of years, V he had had news of Harold. He knew that, after roaming in the West, he U had -returned to dwell in an obscure p part of the same town. He had heard ; that he had a position with a manu- -z facturing company and was atoning s for the wildness of his early years. But the old man was too proud to seek him, and his son was a replica of the -Q father. P Now he looked down with an emo tion which left him speechless at the 0 little boy who claimed his name and, s approaching, slipped his hand confid- e Ingly into his. "Well, who sent you here?" Doctor P Carter demanded. 'Nobody. I comed," answered the little fellow, climbing upon the doc .-.9 0i "I Tried to Keep My 'Promise." tor's knee. "You see, I always wanted U1 a. g'anfather," he continued, "and U, mother said everybody knowed where U Doctor Carter lived, only she wouldn't 0: let me come till father was sick, and Si then I-I runned away. And please come quick, because father's mighty -C sick," he ended, with quaint earnest- er ness. Doctor Carter looked aown at the -s little boy; then he removed him from his knee. P "Come along, Harold," he said, put- * tinbg on his hat and going into the -~ garage, where his high-power automo bile stood waiting in readiness by II night and day. Doctor Carter never U knew when he would be summoned. -~ "What is the matter with your fa- s1 ther?" he inquired, as he drove the 9' machine thitugh the suburban streets. 'e It was five in the afternoon, and he " made a detour to avoid the shopping S crowds. It was only afterward that it occurred to him that he took his main P~ direction from the child by telepathy, V though the boy guided him along the last street and up to the cottage door. " "Is this your father's house?" asked e~ the doctor. "Yes, g'anfather," answered the s child. But it was not. The young woman who hurried frantically along - the street at that moment spied the un boy and, snatching him from the auto- o0 mnobile, held him to her breast and covered his face with kisses before -O she turned to thank the gentleman m who had, as she supposed, brought Pl .him home. "Mr. Carter and I have a room on II the top floor," she said, looking at the Ul doctor dubiously. The resemblance 31 to some photograph that she had seen ai seemed to strike her. "I am Doctor Carter, madam," said I,. the old man gravely. "And you are, I o: presume, my daughter-in-law." It was a beautiful face that looked 1U into his, the eyes swam with tears and T Piles Cured in 6 to 14 Days Your druggist will refund money if FaZO OINTMENT fails to cure any case of Itching, Si Blind, Bleeding or Protruding Piles in 6to 14 days. b -The first application gives Ease and Rest. SOc. Fire Extinguisher. t It was quite by accident that the t discovery was made that ammonia 'would extinguish burning oil. A bot tle of ammonia saved a family great loss by fire. The gasoline stove sprung a leak and the fluid caught fire,t spreading rapidly. One of the older children coming into the room could not reach the sink and get water to throw over the blaze as he thought ought to be done, but had enough presence of mind to pour over it the contents of an ammonia bottle that stood near. As it happened, it was the very best thing he could have done, as it quickly extinguished the 1 fire which water could not do. Now the family keeps ammonia on hand in a two-quart sealed jar, anticipating the time when it may be needed again ftq As It ulT aqi 01~z o J J.%% na -u.iaql jnoqv va Ivaj2 - 'W3L op gLA aq; pits .-9ju) pur s4vilop 4floq 11111113 S4Cngu4 J.ILU stTal1amv U10K.. -jeM, pue spJoM ea-iI 01 2ujuuj~aq Isnf va 'eal aq I;sq; -AawlI aq 'ssaulddsq 0 sreal jdae! paipliN prm 'Sin;Sor 1auoo.ID piiq3eq stu 'PuV .Iaplnoqri jq uodn PLOISH aillll dii jq5T113 pla mmt PLO Gtq1 j1rl3U!
