will be a parade of the future citizens of the county, the scho
children, beginning at the school house and ending at the fa
grounds.
Each school in the county is expected to have as many booti

hibits in these will consist of any articles made, raised, or owni
by the children.
These will be judged according to Quality, Quantity, Varie
A4ttractiveness, by men and women from other parts of the stat
Each school is expected to deborate its own tpooth, and to be
the expenses of constructing it. This will be only a small amou1
and the boys and girls -will be allowed to. sell any of~their articl
to defray all or any part of such expense. I suggest the followit
things as suitable for the booths. but this by no means limits ti
display, as we want originality, and are anxious to see just wh
our boys'and girls can do.
Examination papers, compositions, maps. drawings, painting
problems in arithmetic, algebra, geometry. Exercises in grai
mar, paper cntting, .paper folding, posters, sand table work, se'
ing, fancy aprons, plain aprons, dresses, shirt waists. embroi

dolls, rag dolls, hickory nbt dolls, corn shuck dolls, paper doll
baby caps, sun bon'nets, shuck and raffia hats, doll hats.
Eatables such as jellhes, preserves, catsups, pickles, cook
meats, hain, chicken, turkey, beef, pork, sausage, loaf brea
rolls, biscuits. muffins, corn bread, pies of all kinds, cakes of i
kinds, candies of all kinds, sandwiches, peanuts, pop corn, crac
er jacks, cheese straws, butter, etc.
Articles made, such as axe handles, chicken coops. book case
picture frames. screens, bread boards, wood boxes, shirt wai
boxes, brooms, kites, rakes, jumping-jacks, etc.
Articles raised. such as corn, potatoes, chickens. hogs, goal
calves, nuts, vegetables. fruit, sugar cane, flowers, etc.
We expect .to offer $5.00 in gold each, for the best exhibit by
onie teacher school, by a two teacher school, by a three teacha
school, and by those with more than one teacher, making twen
dollars in prizes.
Immediately after the parade, and while thingc. ie humming
the' fair grounds, we expect to have a "Better Babies Contest"
the ~school house.
These contests have taken root wherever thinking men a
women are found. They are practical, because they arouse p~
ental pride, creates a desire to study child life, and help humani:
by teaching each parent to help himself.
KThe better babies contest consists of a competitive-examinat
of children of three years of age, or under, by physicians w
prizes for the high scoring babies, Mere beauty does not cou
but the intrinsic value of the baby as a human machine, well p
portioned. properly nourished, does.
The Woman's Home Companion is behind the movement. Iha
received from them instructions as to the conduct of the conte
They will contribute to handsome better babies, medals in bron:
to be awarded to the farm baby. and the town baby scoring 1
highest average. To each first prize winner in any class, ti
will present a handsome certificate, printed in three colors. The
will be other better babies prizes announced later.
We will make other announcements from time to time. C
plans are not complete, but are growing rapidly. We expect ti
to be the BIGGEST DAY Clarendon has ever had. Meet me
Bthe Fair Grounds December 12th, is to be our slogan. I shall
glad to give further information to those desiring it.
