one hauVa jreee.Q a Joke.
"Tbia. articfaf'lmb business Is get
ting to oe something wonderful," said
a CleGand men. "When a man can
wiggle the ftnges of an artifcial band
it is uncanny. Practical jokes of terri
ble effect are.possible with the artificial
limb, and the victim is such in the true
eense of the word. I saw a man in
Denver about three weeks ago who
walked up to the hotel clerk and in a
friendly way reached across the coun
ter to shake-hands. Then he wheeled
away and left his band in the grip of
the clerk. The clerk fainted-actually
fainted, although he realized, I believe,
that the band be-held was but an arti
ficial one. The man who wore it had
devised a scheme by which he might
throw it of by pressing a spring. The
delight he took in the joke ceased when
the victim collapsed."--Mllwaukee Sen

Board of Trustees, notice is hereby
given that an election will be held at

and I. I. Appelt are requested to serve

Chamberlain's Cough Remedy the Very Bast.
"I have :>een using Chamberlain's
Cough Remedy and want to say It is
the best cough medicine I have ever
taken," says Geo. L. Chubb, a merch
at of Harlan, Mich. There is no ques
ion about its being the best, as it will
ure a cough or cold in less time than
any other treatment. It should always
be kept in the house-ready for instant
se, for a cold can be cured in much
less time when promptlX treated. For

A Ghastly Pavement.
Gwandu, a native town in Africa,
contains between 10,000 and 15,000 in
habitants and is surrounded by a pa1
isade of poles, the top of every pole
being crowned with a human skull.
There are six gates, and the approach
to each gate is laid with a pavement
of human skulls, the tops being the
only parts that show above ground.
More than 2,000 skulls are used in the
pavement leading up to each gate.
The pavement Is of snowy avhiteness,
lbeto the smoothness of Ivory
ythe daily passage of hundreds of
naked feet.
How to Ward Off Old Age.
The most successful way of warding
off the approach of old age is to main
tain a vigorous digestion. This can be
done by eating only food suited to your
age and occupation, and when any dis
order of the stomach appears take a
dose of Chamberlain's Stomach and
Liver Tablets to correct it. If you have
a weak stomach or are troubled with
indigestion, you will find these Tablets
to be just what you need. For sale by

A Wonderful Saving.
The largest Methodist Church in
Georgia, used 32 gallons of L. & M.
mixed with 24 gallons of oil, thus mak
Iing paint cost about $1.20 per gallon.
IThey calculated to use 100 gallons of
other paint. Saved about $80.00, and
also got a big donation .of L. & M.
Dealers gladly sell L. & M., because
their customers call for it, and say they
used it 12, 14 and even 30 years ago.
Don't pay $1.50 a gallon for linseed
oil, which you do in ready-for-use paint.
Buy oil fresh from the barrel at 60
cents per gallon, and mix it with L. &
M. Paint.
It makes paint cost about $1.20 per
gallon. Sold by The R. B. Loryea
Drug Store.
Lobster Mortaty EHa-h.
A lobster lays thousands of eggs.
most of which hatch, but few ever live
to grow up. This Is not the fault of
the mother, for she carries them about
wth her for nearly a year and with
admrable instinct gnards them as she
does her own life. When the young
are set free her duty Is done, for they
mustthen shift for-thiemselves. Though
hardly larger than mosquitoes, being
about one-third of an inch long, the
lttle ones leave their parents on the
bottom and swim toward the light-to
the surface, where from one to two
months, if fortune favors them, they
lead a free, roving life. The open sea
is a poor nursery for such weklngs,
which beome the sport of every storm
