Letter to Col. Brailsford.
Davis Station, S. C., July 2, 1904.
DEAR DAvID:-I read a short whil
since a communication of yours in ref
ereuce of the bestowal on Mr. Joel Brun
son of Sumter a cross of honor as g
Con F. derate veteran when he was onl:
what the veteran soldiers used to cal
the boys in the State service at inter
vals "Shin Plasters."
The communication referred to wa
published a short while ago and yoi
are right in what you wrote constitut
ing a Confederate veteran and I heart
ily concur in and approve all you wroti
in regard to the same.
A Confederate veteran was a soldiei
that was mustered into the service o
the Confederate States, and one wh<
had rendered active service to thi
same. No more no less.
Webster's definition--Veteran, "Ono
who has been long in any service or ar
particularly in war; one who has growi
old in service, and has much experi
ence."
State troops of no class can be con
sidered Confederate veterans and it i
supremely amusing and ridiculous fo:
anyone so claiming.
In the issue of THE MANNING TIME,!
of this week a sixteener comes to th,
rescue.
Sixteener classified the State troop
into several classes, but with all hi
classifications they will not fit Web
ster's definition of "veteran."
The boys responded to the call of th
State and did the best they could i1
defence of their State's Rights an
their services and them too will alway
be admired and remembered by th
Confederate veterans but they must re
member that State troops of any clas
whatsoever were not Confederate vete
rans.
You will see the reply to yours b;
sixteen and you can reply accordingly
I will be up sometime this month.
will write you before I come up. W
must have that long anticipated fishin;
trip when I come up.
Your friend,
GEo. R. JONES.

children was taken with cholera mor

to give her entire relief. I then de

did not use all of one bottle before

troubled with that complaint. On
cannot say too much in favor of tha

Weak Hearts
are caused by indigestion. If you eat a
little too much, or if you are subject to
attaek-s of indigestion, the stomach ex
pands-swells, and puffs up against the
heart. This crowds the heart and
shortens the breath. Rapid heart beats
and -heart disease is the final result.

indigestion, dyspepsia, sour stomach,
