iLast Thursday night, the store-house
en the Manning road to Kmngstree be
longing to the Haynesworth brothers
was destroyed by fire; the loss is comn
plete as their was no insurance. The
building contained some groceries, and
farm produce, together with a lot of
cotton seed meal, which was mostly
saved. The loss is about 8500.
We received a letter this week from
a gentleman having interests in this
county, asking us to send him several
copies of last week's TniEiS. He is in
thorough sympathy with our efforts to
secure additional railroad facilities for
Manning, and he is ready to co-operate
in the taking of stock. Our railroad
project is no idle dream, we sincerely
believe the agitation of this matter will
result in accomplishing a good purpose.
Died last Thursday at his home near
Davis Station, Mr. S. M. Nexsen, aged
about 50 years. The deceased was one
of the wealthiest men in the county,
starting in life very poor and by hard
work, amassed a large fortune. He
will be missed in his community, for in
it, he was a great aid to many. His
body was taken to Williamsburg for
interment. The deceased leaves four
brothers and two sisters surviving him,
and having left no will these heirs-at
law will divide equally his estate esti
mated at about $150,000 and probably
more.
There is a bill in the legislature mak

wealth is in the swindling of creditors.
some who compromised their debts 25

pay a cent, and some who after swind

pelf concealed beneath petticoats. In
a large measure such a drastic measure
is advocated by the class we describe,
and it is this class who frequently use
the criminal machinery to collect debts
from the ignorant and poor.

the insane, and nowhere for R. S. De

Cinders In the Eye.
Persons traveling by railway are
subject to continued annoyance from
the flying cinders. On getting int the
eyes they are not only painful for the
. moment, but are often the cause of
- long suffering that ends in a total loss
Sof sight A very simple and effective
,cure is within the reach of every one
and would prevent much suffering and
expense were it generally known. It is
simply one or two grains of ilaiseed.
These may be placed in the eye with
out injury or pain to that delicate or
gn, and shortly they begin to swell
and dissolve a glutinous substance that
covers the ball of the eye, enveloping
any foreign substance that may be in
it The irritation of cutting the tIem
brane is thus prevented, and the an
noyance may soon be washed out A
dozen of these grains stowed away in
ithe vest pocket may prove in an emer
gency worth their number in gold.
