SRear-Admiral Schley, the hero of Santiago, is expected to be in Charles ton on the 22nd of February to address the Daughters of the Revolution. The Epworth Sunday school has moved into its new quarters. The school has a large attendance and is do ing good work in that community. SLegg, Hutchinson & Co., have a large stock of Buggies. Loryea Drug Store. spent a few days this week with his sister, Mrs. J. E. Barnett, in Maves ville. Sheriff Davis has returned from Charleston, where he underwent an operation removing one of his eyes. His vision in the other eve is much im proved. Alsbrook, formerly of San tee, is now foreman of the Davis Lum ber Company at Davis. He is the right man in the ~right place, and is making many friends in his new home. SMr. Zed Ingram, who for many years lived in Manning, died at Waco, Texas, last Monday afternoon at 6 o'clock, aged about 21 years. He was a nephew of Mrs. S. J. Legg of this place. Cap- d tain Dick was a son of the late T. W. al Dick. The deceased served in the tI "Boy Reserves" during the war and b was a fine soldier. Captain Dick for several years past has been on the road for Harby & Co.. of which firm he was a member. He 'had a large circle of friends all over the State who will be pained to hear of his death. Manning had another fire this morn ng about 2 o'clock. About that hour ire broke out in S. I. Till's dry goods tore and consumed the building and its ntire contents, but with hard work all uildings adjoining were saved. It was ortunate that there were two walls on he side of Brown & Co.'s drug store Lud that building was saved with little rouble. It took considerable work to ave Nimmer's store and a quantity of ,in had to be cut from the roof and vater poured in which did some dam ge to goods. Policeman Clark and Watchman ;'harlie Thames say they smelled kero ene odors for some time before the fire )roke out, and so informed Policeman luggins, who came on at 1 o'clock. Chere was a lamp burning in the store, nd it seems the policemen and watch nan were watching this building. Mr. Huggins had just relieved Mr. lark about a half hour and had not ng passed the front of the store door .nd*everything seemed all right, when, n a few minutes, it was discovered that ire was burning somewhere inside and he building was so full of smoke that to one could enter. Mr. Huggins and Watchman Thames mmediately gave the alarm by firing istols and ringing the bell, but when he crowd came of course nothing could >e done to save this building and all ands worked to save the fire from fur her spreading.
