The passenger train changed sched
ule last Sunday. The train from Char
leston arrives in Manning 9:17 a. m,
and the train from Columbia arrives
6:28 p m.
On account of the change of schedule
the morning mail leaves the post office
at 8:50 o'clock and the afternoon mail
leaves at 6:00 o'clock. This gives thE
public about a half hour longer to mat
their letters.
If Clarendon is to have an exhibit a1
the exposition it is time there is some
active interest being taken. It woul
be a great pity if our commissioners d
not succee in getting Clarendon in
line with the other counties.

The special committee of the grand
jury consisting of Messrs A. I. Barion,
R. J. Alderman E. P. Geddings, was in
session last Friday. The principal part

ertain whether or not the county com
missioners committed an illegal act in
making a printing contract with this
newspaper. We have no idea how they
went about their investigation, but we
do know that they did not invite or
summons the management of this paper
before them. Had they done so we
think we were prepared to convince
them that the commissioners, not only
did not commit an illegal act, but they
wisely -used their discretion in such
matters, and if an opportunity before a
proper tribunal is presented we will
make such a showing.

The town council is being petitioned
to adopt an ordinance to prohibit the
keeping-of hogs within the corporate
limits. This is a matter entirely for
the council to consider. Is the town sc
thickly populated the the keeping oi
hog~s within it is menacing to the
health? We signed that petition with.

ing about it, we suggest that instead o:

bogs ir~would be better to create one
that would prohibit people who raise
bogs to build their pens within 100
yards of a residence; such an ordinance
would take the hogs out of the thickly
ettled portion of the town, and permit
those who have the room, to raise hogs
without annoying their neighbors. We
nink the huddling of cattle in the
town, fully as menacing or more so than
the raising of a few hogs.

The second year's work of our graded
chool has just ended and everybody
;eems delighted with its success. At

Friday evening Dr. W. R. Mood, on
behalf of the public, thanked the board
>f trustees and the teachers for their
service. This was done in a very pleas
mt and feeling manner. A paper from
he patrons and voters of the district

heir satisfaction.
