Why is it that the politicians who are after the Governor's of fice now, do not find in the pres ent Governor's administration something like rebates, bond dealing and other scandals? The little petty complaints which they are making now, will cause the people to wonder why they did not mention these little things befere they became can didates. Lawyers, in t h e i r speeches. can manuf:.cture all kinds ot bug-a-boos to scare peo ple off from voting against the man seeking a full term, but the people will not permit their votes to be governed by oily-tongued politicians who in their speeches car almost make black appear white. Sensible people, when they go to vote for Governor will ask themselves the question. "Has the present Governor mer ited a full termY Has his admin istration been a success? Has he given the people an adminis tration free from scandal? If he has, he deserves their endorse ment, regardless of the political clap-trap of politicians who want the office. There is more Catarrh in this section of the country than all other diseases put together. and until the last few years was supposed to be incurable. For a great many years doctors pro nounced it a local disease. and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment. pronounced it ineurable. Science has proven catarrh to be a constitutional dis ease. and therefore requires constitutional treat ment. Hall's Catarrh Cure. manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co.. Toledo. Hall's Family Pills are the b'est The Prohibitionists who are advocating prohibition as a re ligious principle must surely be wondering wherein will they get prohibition if Col. J. A. Hoyt is elected. The sincere Prohibi tionists believe it is wrong for the State to sell liquor, and they want to see the State get out of the business and, they have good and substantial reasoning in the position they take. But the kind of prohibition as represented in the platform adopted by the con ference which nominated a can didate for Governor, does not meet the requirements of the true Prohibitionists. The true Prohibitionist does not want the State to continue to sell liquor, whereas the prent Prohibition platform demanda that the State shall go right on, and sell the stuff, only confining its sales to medicinal, mechanical and sacra mental purposes. In other words, to change the dispensaries from a place where liquor can be bought in a manly way, to a de pot of hypocrisy. Why don't the Prohibitionists have the moral courage to make the issue Liquor or No Liquor? If they did, insincerity would not be charged. Story of a Slave. To be bound hand and foot for years by the chains of disease is the worst form of siat'ery. George D. williams of Manchester. Mich.. tells how such a slave was made free. He says: "My wife has been so helpless for five years that she could not turn over in bed alone. After using two bottles of Electric Bitters, she is wonder fully improved and able to do her own work." This supreme remedy for female diseases quick ly eures nervousness. sleeplessness, melainchoiy, headache. backache. fainting and dizzy spells. This miracle working medicine is a godsend to weak. sickly. run down people. Every bottle guaranteed. Only 50 cents. sold by the R. B. Loryca drug store. 6 The Columbia State is work ing hard to defeat Governor Mc Sweeney, but we hope the peo pe throughout the State will understand :hat the "State" isn't supporting prohibition, for the love it has for that principle, but because it hates the dispensary. The "State" is confessedly oppos ed to prohibition, and regards it a species of fanaticism: vet, in this campaign, it is endeavoring to pose as the leader for the Pro hibitionists. N. G. Gonzales the editor of the State, is nothing if .ot extreme: his bitter hatred for Ben Tillman, and everything the friends of Tillmaan did, is re ~arded by himn as good things to destrov. Gonzales' hatred was first displayed when his influence wa s used to destroy the Demo cratic party in 1>90, by forcing the Haskell movemnent on the people, and thereby mnaking a breach which has taken years of had wor:k to ('lose up. This same editolr has ever' sinice, been a sour'c'e of worry' to those wh'lo :-ause: we mean that element that wanted strife to end, and the people to be at peace with each other. In our opinion the Co lumbia State will not damage the chances of Governor Mc Sweeney, and its policy of "any body-to-beat'' McSweeney will cause many a voter to consider the motive prompting Gonzales' opposition. before the general assembly convenewd the '"State" was saving nice things about the present Governor, but when that omeiial sent his mnessag to the legislature. and it did not rec ()niilend~ the State's views on the liquor question, that newspaper could not find language sufficent to belittle the present adminis tration, and not being able to base a charge of misconduct, it is using its power to discredit the Governor.
