One of our readers complained to us the day before yesterday of the scarcity of news in our local columns, and we were forced to confess that we are not giving as much as we would like. If our friend will just take our place for one issue, he will then realize how difficult it is to aet news when there is I none. Our local columns are used for news of local interest solely, and when there is a scarcity .ve can only do the best we can by giving our readers what there is. No Right to Ugliness. This was the experience of a young couple in this county not many'days ago, and the young fellow hearing the report, made haste to reach the editor, lest he might chronicle the event which never happened. All that we will say about it is, that we are sorry 'ie rumor was not true, and we believe the young fellow is too. The Best Remedy for Rhenmatism. QUICK RELIEF FRON PAIN. Loryea, Prop. There are a good many fellows knock ing about these days wearing white shirts and standing collars who are en deavoring to ascertain what their' chances would be in case they run for a certain office. It is a way they have of inducing an expression in shape of a promise of support. The best way for a candidate to do is togo down into his jeans like a free and independent Am erican citizen, haul out a $5 bill, give it to THE TMES and make his announce ment like the fellow who got religion and didn't care who knew it. If a man should have confidence enough in his 'chances to pay a little something to let, the people know what he wants. "Opportanity is the Cream of Time." Now is your opportunity. A few weeks ago there appeared in this paper an item suggesting neigh borhood cotton seed oil mills, and in response to the same, one of our enter prising young farmers wrote us a letter asking for information about machin ery, the probable cost etc. This young man was so impressed with the article that he has gone to work investigating the project, and from what we can learn we believe he will try the experiment. Since then another has spoken to us about the matter with a view of trying thebusiness. If the project is started. and proves a success nearly every cot-, ton gin in the county will have a small seed oil attachment, and then good bye to the combinations that are now squeez ing the oil out of the seed,as well as the money out of the people's pockets. Bismnarck's Iron Nerve Was the result of his splendid health. In-' domitable will and tremendous energy are not found where stomach. liver, kidneys and bowels are out of order. The Connor Rifles Having Trouble. There is trouble in the camp of the Connor Mounted Rifies which may re sult with unpleasantness. Last Saturday at Packsville the com pany held a m'eeting at wvhich thirty six members were present. The State's militia appropriation brought on a heated discussion and Capt. D. E. Wells refused to turn the money received from the State over to the men. as had been the custom heretofore, Captain Wells claiming that he was advised to hold the money to be expended for com pany purposes. The rule has been that when the money came from the State. for each man to receive his portion. Captain Wells lives in the Privateer section and he wants the company to have its drills near his home: the men, howevr, prefer Packsville, and many of them think he is holding the money to force them to go to Privateer. The men are considerably worked up over the affair, and at their next meet in g they propose to take such steps as will require the Adjutant General to take some action. Some of the men are in favor of expelling Captain Wells from the company's membership and petition the State authorities to order a courtartial.
