Sprott near Jordan was discovered on fire, and too late to save anything at all. When the fire was discovered the buildings were so far consumed within that they were ready to collapse, and the horses and mules were already dead. There was no insurance on this property and the loss is severe, about $2500. There were destroyed four head of mules, four head of horses, a large quantity of grain and forage, 20 tons of fertilizer, a reaper and mower nd other things. The origin of the fire is unknown, and it is suspected that it might be the work of an incen diary. from the fact that the fire had the appearance of having started from the rear. If it was an incendiary fire, we hope steps will be taken at once to discover the fiend, who would thus go, under the cover of night and destroy the pr-operty of a widow. Caught a Dreadful Cold. Loryea, Prop. A Sad Death. One of the saddest events we have ever been called upon to chronicle, oc cured at Clinton S. C. last Saturday, and it only goes to show how uncertain life is. On the 20th day of March this year, a bright and happy young man from the town of Clinton came to Alco lu to claim the hand of his intended bride, and the next day at the residence of Mr. J. J. Nettles, Rev. James Mc Dowell performed the marriage ser vice for Job T. Boozer and Miss Alys Cole. The bride was a graduate of the Thornwell Orphanage, and after the couple were made man and wife they left for Clinton to fight life's battle together. Letters to friends came back convey ing the happiness of the orphan-bride in her new home, with her hus-. band-protector, when all at once, the hand of affliction was laid heavily upon the groom, pneumonia caught him in its grasp, and before the honey-moon was over, death came and robbed the young bride of her joy. This is indeed a sad case: here was a girl left an or phan when young, and after being reared by the hand of benevolence, and reaching woman-hood, she marries and is so suddenly brought under the chas tening rod. On the first occasion she drank two ounces of iaudanum, but she was saved by prompt medical attention. This time she took five grains of morphine and that she is alive is due to the fact that she took an overdose, which nau seated her and caused vomiting. She was quite sick at the Jervey House, where she was staying all of Wednes day night aud yesterday, but today is said to be out of danger. As soon as it became known that she was ill a doctor was called, and since then she has been constantly watched to prevent a repetition of the attempt at self-destruction.
