Editor TuE TItEs: Will you kindly permit me space in your columns to explain to those in Clarendon County interested in the tobacco culture aad sales, my reasons for withdrawing the bi I introduced "Further regulating the charges of warehouses in handlin2 and weighing Leaf Tobacco." I was influenced to introduce the bill by hearin~g complaints from many of those engaged in tobacco cul ture. who considered the rates now exist ing too high. and who thought it should be changed or moditied, and thus arrive at n equitable arrangement between pro ducer and the handler. Instead of refering the bill to one of the standing committees, I had it sent to a special committee com posed of two members of the House from ach of the following counties, as those most concerned in the tobacco industry: Clarendon, Marlboro, Horry, Daritugton, Florence. Orangeburg, Sumter, Williams burg and Bamberg. T1he committee called before the arepresentatives of the wvare ouses and experts, and gave the matte-r the most carelul consideration. Althongh many thought the charges high, it was inally determined that it would be best not to legislate at this time on the matter and to allow the schedule as it exists to re main in torce. Inasmuch as this arrange' eit voiced the ideas and opinions of the most efficient men throughout the State to pass on this particular subject, and as the measure was conceived in the interests of both the growers and handlers of to bacco, my object was effected, and I with drew the bill to save unnecessary expense in printing and a further consumation of time.
