In my "official report" published last week Private Allen Bradhami's name ap peared as one who declined to obey the . orders of his snperior officers: I have afbee been informed by the person dis pathed to notify Private Bradham that he did not deliver may order to him, being stopped on the way by a party who told him that Private Bradham positively could not go. Being away at the time the ma terial for my report was collected for pub lication I necessarily had to assume my order was obeyed. These thoughts camne rushing to our mind last Friday Light, after we had fin ished our day's work and had gone to join our family for the night. .We felt that one more foot print had been made on the sandi of time, and that we -were at peace with all mankind. Not conscious of ill will towards any, nor any towards us, and after enjoy ing the presence of our family circle and about to retire, a suspicious circumstance appeared to us and fastened itself upon our mind that something was going to hap pen to disturb our peaceful thoughts. The family retired as usual, but our suspicions would not grow less, and so thoroughly did they arouse us that we decided to light our pipe (we had no cigars as our friends are practeing economy) and wait for the mysterious something to turn up. It was a beautiful night, a silvery moon was lighting up the universe, the stars were. twinkling and seemned out on a lark, not a blot in the shape of a cloud appeared on the heavens to mar the beauty of the pic ture. Noiselessly we walked about the house and in the yard, lest we disturb the slumbers of out unsupecting five little ones, but the minutes seemed hours with nothing to break the monotony save an occasional re quest from "Old Mauma" to lay down and rest. The suspense had taken full posses sion of us and rest we could not, for our whole mind was bent on waiting for the mysterious something. The- honrs had lost their fleetness and morning seemed to have taken a day off and tardy about returning, when at a quarter to four o'clock- from an adjoining room came a sound, it was the voice of a stranger who had invaded our "castle" without a warrant, the protection of which is guaranteed us by the laws of the land; and from the demonstrations we could hear him making we hesitated about flying to the rescue, but after contempla ting whether to alarm the neighborhood, or call the police, "Old Mauma" called to us to come, and we entered to find the stranger in our bed claiming with empha sis his inalienable and constitutional right to the possession of the premises. Em boldened with the knowledge of the prem ises belonging to us we approached nearer, but our presence had rno effect on the in vader's determined course. He claimed the d~inction of bearing the name of our illustrious congressman, John L. McLaurin, and that his mission was not of a character to require a resort to the courts for a writ of ejectmenit nor to bring a chuirge of trespass, and after listening to his arguments and watching his demonstra tions we decided not to follow the example set by the authorities at Washington in the treatment of visitors, but to allow the stranger to remain, and to submit the case to the readers of the Times arid the public generally and for such other and further re lief as they may deem nmeet and proper.
