Adams Way has been suffering considerably with a kind of erysipelas in his hands. -Miss Floience Michelson, of Barnwell, spent several days of last week with the family of Mr. S. Cotton is quoted in Charleston to.day at 7j. Market is firm. An effort is making in Foreston to organ ize a Knights of Pythias lodge. There will be no preaching in the Man ning Methodist church next Sunday. Horton, Burgess, & Co. have a very inter esting tale in our advertising columns this week. The county auditor publishes this week the notice of tax returns and his list of ap pointments. Yesterday was the last day for collecting the street tax. Delinquents, look out; the council will be after you. Beware of the gossiping woman: when with you she is a very dear friend, but her keen tongue cuts all alike. The DesChamps Bros., of Sumter, are out this week with a song that will attract the eye of the purchasing public. Last Sunday was a damp and disagree able day. There was &light fall of snow, but not enough to lie on the ground. A poet says that a baby is "a new wave on the ocean of life." It strikes us "a fresh squall" would express the idea better. Married to-day in Manning, at the resi dence of T. E. Jasper, Mr. James Cobia and Miss Ida Logan, daughter of Mr. B. L. Logan. A photographer is now in Manning, Pre pared to make pictures that he guarantees will please. He expects to leave in about two weeks. The 15th day of December is the last day for the County Treasurer's books to be open, unless the Legislature extends the time to receive the taxes. Nearly the whole amount has already been subscribed, and tha balance will be forthcoming in a few days. Mr. George Ducker, formerly of Sumter, who last week attempted to kill himself at the Jerome hotel in Columbia, by shooting himself in the head, died last Thursday in Charleaton, where he had been carried. On the saburbs of this quiet town is a place kn own as "Mount Triumph." and on at Saturday morning two of its colored so ciety belles, Miss Rachael McDuffie and Miss Lizzie Burgess, became involved in a row, which terminated in Miss Burgess having her finely moulded cranium cut open with a chair in the hands of the daughter of Miss McDamfe.
