Summerton News.
SnDEErToN, Dec. 31.-We have had a
quiet Christmas in our village. Christmas
is now numbered with the past, as also is
the year of 1888.
Taking everything in we have had a hard
year both for the farmer and merchant,
crops were short and collections not good.
We are all disappointed in the way things
turn out. All we can do is to pull our coats
off and try and make it up in 1889.
The Christmas trade has been very good.
The Presbyterians had a Christmas tree
for their Sunday-school at Maj. Briggs's on
last Thursday night. All present had a
pleasant time.
Panola's entertainment on Friday was a
pleasant affair. Quite a large crowd, and
everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.
Mr. Thomas Wilson says he will have his
Railroad to Summerton in time to haul the
guano and supplies for the comig season.

Tax Payers.
Auditor Bradham requests us to publish
the following:
The attention of this office hats been call
ed to the fact that in some counties of the
State the Auditors have been in the habit
of distributing loosely the returns for per
sonal property, and allowing individuals to
fill out the same, sending the said returns
to the County Auditors without the oath
which attaches to the same being adminis
tered. This practice must be stopped, and
each and every tax payer will be required
to appear before the respective County
Auditors, either by themselves, their agents
or assigns, guardians, trustees, administra
tors, &c., and answer the various questions
as appear upon the return. And the Coun
ty Auditors will put these questions catego
rically to each and every person making a
return of personal property. When the
said return is made the Auditorwill admin
ister the oath and swear the party making
the return in each and every instance.

While the Lamp Holds Out.
Niles G. Parkez, of somewhat unsavory
reputation in South Carolina in the days of
good stealing, sends us a copy of the Iowa
Citizen, a stirring Democratic journal pub
lised in Charles (it Iowa,-of which our
ierei :vilas G., is the
editor.
In looking over the paper we find among
the Cleveland Presidential Electors the fol
lowing, marked:
"Fourth District-N. G. Parker, of Floyd
county."
Here is literally a case of repentance and
better life over which we are prepared to
sing that good hymn:
"While the lamp holds o-it to barn
The vilest sinner may return."
We congratulate our old friend and sinner,
and sincerely hope that he may after all,
"get there."-Columbia Register.
The Great Regulator of the Liter.
The success of that great Liver remedy,
Simmons Liver Regulator, has tempted un
scrupulous manufacturers to place on the
market an imitation of it, which is calcula
ted to deceive the public, as it bears no re
lation to the genuine except in the similar
ity of the package. The genuine Simmons
Liver Regulator has the red Z on the front
of wrapper, and is regarded everywhere as
the best Liver Medicine in the world.
