BAl) Nh.WS FlRO31 CH'AlRLESTON. Rumors of an lndep-.mdent Democratic Ticket to be Viacea I.viore the Voters of Ethat City. (From the Sunday Bud;;et.) There is some talk of an independent ticket being placed in the field for county officers, in opposition to that which was n.,minated by the recent.;Democratc county convention. Soineof the inst prominent citizens of the county ale spoken of in connection with the ticket. A large number of the voters expresa themselves as being in sympathy with the independent movement, and avow their intension to support the ticket, if one is put in the field. The following is a list of the gentlemen spoken of as candidates: Capt. Alex. Melchers, for sheriff; Dr. B. M. Bebby, for coroner; Hon. U. W. Dingle, for probate judge; Mr. S. J. L. Matthews and fir. J. IX. Murphy for county commissioners. There are contlicting rutors afloat as to the candidates for the other effices. It is said that the nominee of the con vention for the position of school com missioner will be indorsed. Mr. F. L. M: Hugh's nar-e has been mentianed for the position, while others say that he would decline to run for the place, as he is a candidate for the House of Repre sentatives on the ticket nomL'.tcd at the county convention. There are numerous young men spoken of for Representatives to the Legislature, some of them the shrewdest business men in this city. CAPTAIN MELCHRS INTERvIEwED. A Budget reporter called on Captain Melehers yesterday to learn something about the report of his leading the ticket. "Honestly I don't know anything about it." "Haven't you been asked to go on the ticket?" "-1 have heard a rumor of an Indepen dent ticket being plactd in the field, but I know nothing definite about it." "If you were asked to go upon the ticket, would you consent to do so?" "I would certainly decline. But if a sufficient number of the substantial citizens of Charleston were to come out in one of the papers of this city and pledge their support toain :ifdepeident ticket and I were requested to go upon it, I would then, perhaps, consider the question favorably." WHAT MR. DINGLE SAYS. The reporter tried to enter into a dis cussion with Mr. G. W. Dingle on the subject of the Independent ticket. Mr. Dingle was not much inclined to talk. "Well, yes, I have heard something d1fe-srt,but can'trsgyanything in re gard to the matter positively." "You.will, be on it if there is such a ticket, wil'you not?" asked the reporter. "Yes; I suppose so. I don't know ex actly who will be on the ticket. I have heard it talked about. Good morning." And' there the information stops. There is "something in the wind." All futuri developments, if there be any, will be duly chronicled by this office. . Two Miles a Minute.
