A Printer's Search for a Keylkole.
Another one of those old time typos
l ngered down town one morning
among convivial spirits long after the
"jig" was up, and when he finally got
started westward- it, seemed to me
that all the printers in town live on
the west side-it was broad daylight,
and the east-bound cars were crowded
with people who hadn't the faintest
idea of what it was to work all night.
He lived on Madison street, and when
he reached his home he tried for sev
eralminutes to adjust his key to the
key-hole, but couldn't strike the com
bination. Every half minute a car
loaded with people passed by and ev
erybody laughed at him. Then a cun
ng idea struck him. He went calm
ly down in his pocket, got a match,
lighted it, held it up to the keyhole,
inserted the key, unlocked the door
and stalked didnifiedly in, while an
irrepressible shout went up from a car
that was passing. Daylight might be
good enough for some, but he needed!
a little extra illumination. He was
used to artificial light.-Chicago Mail.

Czar and Begger Woman.
Berlin papers report from Freden
hodtliat as the czar was recently
,about entering his carriage he was ap
proached by a begger woman, who
held a little child in her arms and im
pored his assistance. The czar-rough
called to her in Danish to with
draw, and quickly jumped into the car
riage. He then beckoned to one of
the officers of his retinue and handed
him several gold pieces which he de
livered to the woman with the remark:
OHls majesty has just come from his
cbidren, who are ill with the measles,
and did not wish to expose your child
-to the contagion. He sends you this
wioney and advises you to leave this
..ot-at once. The very air around
e l castle is dangerous to children."

HOW SO WE DIB OUR CRAVES?
We must eat or we cannot live.
This we all know. But do we alb
now that we die by eating ? It is
aid we dig our graves with our
eeth. Ii>w foolish this sounds.
Let it is fearfully true. We are ter
-itied at the appr'ach of the cholera
ud Wyellow fever, yet there is a dis
ease constantly at our doors and in
nr houses far more dangerous and
lestructive. Most people hatc. in
heir own stomachs a poison, more
low, but quite as fatal as the germs
f those maladies which sweep men
.to eternity by thousands without
warning in the times of great epi
demics. But it is a mercy that, if
we are watchful, we can tell uhen
we are threatened. The foliowing
are among the symptoms, yet they
do not always4 necessmuiiy appear in
the same or dcer, nor are they always
the samo in different cases. There
is a dull and sleepy feeling; a bad
taste in the mouth, especialy in the
morning; the appetite is change
able, sometimes poor and again it
seems as though the patient could
not eat enough, and occasionally no
appetite at all; dullness and slug
gishness of the mind; no ambition
to study o.work; more or less head
acne and heaviness in the head;
dizziness on rising to the feet or
moving suddenly ; furred and coat
etongue; a sense of a load on the
stomach that nothing removes; hot
and dry skin at times ; yellow tin ge
in the eyes; scanty and ihihcoloied
urine ; sour taste in the mouth, fre
q.uently attended by palipitation of
the heart ; impaired vision, with
spots that seem to be swimming in
the air before the eyes; a cough,
with a greenish-colcred expecto
ration ; poor Ldghts' rest; a stick~y
slime about the teeth and gms;
hands and feet cold and elemy;
in':itable temper and bowels bound
ap and costive. This disease has
puzzled the physicians and still p~uz
zies them. It is the commonest of
ailments and yet the most compli
cated and mysterioas. Sometimes
it is treated as consumprtion, some
times as liver complant, and then
again as malaria and even heart dis
ease. But its real nartura is that of
constipation and dyspepsia. It arises
in the digestive organs and soon
affects all the others through the
corrupted and poisoned blood.
Often the whole body-including
tie nervous system-is literally~
star-ted, even 'when there is nc
emaciation to tell the sad story.
Experience has shown that there is
put one remedy that can certainly
cure this disease in all its stages,
namely, Shaker Extract of Roots or
Mother Seigel's Cur'ative Syrup. It
never fails but, nevertheless, no time
should be lost in trying other so
called remedies, for they will do no
go~od. Get this great vegetable
preparation. (discovered by a vener
able nurse whose name is a horuse
hold word in Germzany) and be 'sure
to get the genuine article.
GIVEN UP BY SEVEN DocTORs,.
Shaker Extract of Roots or Sei
gel's Syrup has raised me to good
health after seven doctors had given
me up to die with consumption.
So writes R. F. Grace, Kirkmnan
tille, Todd Co., Ky.
HE HEAuu) QF IT JUST IN TritE.
"I bad been about given up to
die with dyspepsia when I first saw
the advertisement of Shaker Extract
of Roots o~r Seigel's Syrup. After
using four bottles I was able to at
tend to my business as well as ever.
I know of several cases of chills and
fever that have been cured by it."
So writes Mr. Thos. Pullumn, of Tay
lor, Geneva Co., Ala.
woRTH TEN DOLLARs A BOTTLE.
Mr. Thomas P. Evans, of the firm
of Evans & Bro., Merchants, Horn
town, Accomaack Co., 'Va., writes
that he had been sick with digestive
disorders for nay years and had
tried many phn i.cians and medi
einos withoutr benefit. ~He began to
use Shaker Extract of Roots or Sei
gelrs Syrup about the 1st of Jan.
1887, and was so much better in
three weeks that he considered him
self practically a well man. He
adds: "Ilhave at this time one bot
the on hand, and iflIcould not get
any more I wooul not take a Len
