The operation of the laws of last wiin
ter, which repealed the Ohio statute
authorizing the establishment of sepa
rate schools for colored pupils, is pro
ducing friction in many places. At
Oxford, the colored pupils nearly all
deserted their own schools and applied
for admission to white schools. A pub
lie meeting was held and the school
board was asked to order the colored
pupils to their own school. The school
board complied with the request, and
the colored people propose to apply
for a mandamus. At Yellow Springs
the school board has ordered the
school closed indefinitely until the Leg
islature can meet and take some ac
tion. At Ripley a suit ia mandamus
bas been eztered to compel the school
board to admit colorcd pupils.-Col
