Miss Lula Hurst, the great Geor
gia wonder, was married in Chatta
noogn, Tenn., on the 9th inst., to her
manager, Paul Atkinson. She has
accumulated about $250,000.

J. D. Alsbrook, Eso., editor of the
Bennettsville Chronicle, has been in
town several days. Mr. AlsbrooIk was
called here by the sad death of his

dress, new cover, and presents an im
proved appearance generally. "Dixie"
is a progressive magazine and its suc

A few days ago a colored man rode
a mule to the railroad bridge, at
igstree, and hitched it at the south e),
ide of the river, and then walked to
town. He was detained till late in aq
the evening. When he returned to a,
the mule he found it dead. It had a
entangled itself with the rope and
was choked to death.
Two of the parties, Bacchus Rich
rdson and Jerry Smothers, charged
with breaking in Rigby's store, at
York'rille, in this county, on the 28th ~
of Januarv, and robbing Major P. T.
Carraway of $100 and clothing, were b
apprehended at Sumter on the 18th
and brought to Manning jail last Mon
day evening.
