It is not ungracious to give the earthquake a willing good-bye. Mrs. E'wards calls upon her patrons to examine her varied stock of goods. The cold weather is exhilarating rejuven ating, and comfortable, beside a cozy oak fire. Mr. F. N. Wilson has been on an insur ance exploration to Bucksville and else where. Several attorneys from Sumter were in town Thursday in attendance on the Pro bate Court. It is a popular question in Manning now to ask how long a young lady remains a bride after marriage. Plowden to his new quarters in the build ing lately erected by Jos. Galluchat, Esq. A number of gentlemen came down from Columbia last week to witness the marriage pf Mr. S. J. The General Assembly convened yester day. Our outside will contain a full report of the daily proceedings of that body du ring the session. Sickness prevented our discharging the duties of editor last week. We are indebt ed to A. Levi, Esq., for kindly and most timely assistance rendered in that capac ity. Mahoney, Mr. James F. Rich bourg, of Packsville, to Miss X. Bateman, of Sumter. We were pleased to meet Mr. Jos. H. Montgomery, who is attending the South Carolina University, in town last Thursday. Mr. Montgomery was a witness in a case before the Probate Court. We have a very sensible letter from Rob't T. Stewart, Esq.. colored attorney of this town, addressed to his colored friends on the importance of educating themselves, which will be published next week. The dime reading at Dr. Dinkins' last Friday evening was attended by quite a large crowd. We were unavoidably absent and hence are unable to say anything about the programme. The music by the young ladies is reported as being very fine. For lame back, side or chest, use Shiloh's Porous Plaster. Price 25 cents. On the 20th inst. MeMartin, colored, was shot with a pistol by William James, color ed. Martin was hit in the side, but not hurt seriously. The afair grew out of Mar tin accusing James of purioining from him a suit of clothes. James has betaken him self to whereabouts unknown. The ministers of the churches in Man ning have agreed to hold thanks-giving services in the Presbyterian Church to morrow (Thursday). In announcing this fact last Sunday from the pulpit, the Rev. Mr. Leard made an earnest appeal to his congregation to attend the services, which will commence at about 12 o'clock M. On last Thursday Cicero Harvin and Jim Rthame, (colored) brothers-in-law, in a quar rel over a family disagreement, resorted to snhot-guns as the speediest way to settle their difficulty. Each seized his trusty musket and banged away. Cicero's load of small shot took effect in Jims shoulder; and the contents of Jim's gun found a lodging piace in Cicero's head. Neither was seriously hurt. The little trouble was afterwards am icably adjusted. We are requested to state that the Monu mental Association will meet in the Court HIouse at Manning on Saturday, the 4th of December, at 10 o'clock A. M. This society, which is for a most landa ble purpose, has been oni the eve of dis ruption for several months, and but for the indefatigable efforts of several of our citi zens it would have proved 6 failure. And now another effort will be made to get our citizens interested in this matter. It is due to those whose energies have been put forth in this cause that the people bestir them selves and attend the meeting in Decem ber. The ladies are earnestly calledl upon to arouse their husbands, fathers, brothers, and sons to a remembrance of their dead Confederate kinsmen; and to take an inter est in the monument to be erected to their memt . On last Thursday evening the doors of the Methodist Church were thrown open and the church brightly illuminated. The aus picious occasion was the marriage of Mr. 8. J. Clark to Miss Canie, daughter of Maj. P. G. Benbow, of this town. At about 74 o'clock. the church being wel] filled with the friends of the contracting parties, a wedding march pealing from the church organ, under the skillfal touch of Mrs. Lina Hfuggins, announced the appear ancesof the bridal company. The bride ap> peared in full costume, with orange blos soms and the long graceful bridal veil; andJ her female attendants were elegantly dress ed in varigated colors, which made a beau tiful scene in the glowing light from the lamps, The ceremony was performed by the Rev. S. Leard, after which the party adjourned to the home of the bride, where they were royally entertained with a magnificent bun quet. The following were the attendants: Mr. W. E. Business has been pretty fair this fall, and our merchants are making good collections, and are well supplied with everything need fu.: are also active and energetic, and there fore must succeed-so also the proprietors of our two lumber mills, the Messrs. Hud gins-father and son. Our churches and Sunday schools are in good condition, and will probably not go into winter quarters this year. The Freewill Baptists near here have se cured the services of Rev. Sam'l F. Parker this year and will have preaching regularly twie; each month.
