Johnson & Co., of Richmond, Va., did it and is still going bravely ahead. Satterwhite, of Marion. will fill thej pulpit of the Baptist Church next Sunday morning. Mnr. Cur DteBOSE 1IssING.-On Sunday last, the 12th, .SIr. C. Dui Bose left home and went, as claimed, to a neighbors for the purpose of do ing some work. Hie executed his1 design, was paid one dollar, and left. It appears that he was accompamied, on taking his departure, by two ne groes; since which time nothing has been heard of him. Mrs. DuBose, the wife of the missing man, spied the negroes, who evinced every desire to prevent being seen, and when ac costed, as she relates, manifested great halting and hesitation in ac counting for Mr. DuBose; and said, fially, he had gone to vote. Foul play is suspected, and every~ effort should be made to find theI man or his body. Since writing the above we under stand that Mr. DuBose has turned up safe and sound. Svrnr~oN, S. Ihereby'express my grateful acknowl-~ edgments for your liberal support in the late Primary election, given in the face of rumors that were circulat ed purposely to defeat my ekcetion. Some of the rumors were known to me but I was (by my pledge madle to all the candidates for House of Representatives before the first Pri mary, and renewed to Mr. Plowden ater 1st Primary, and wvhich was mu tual on the part of each, not to can vass nor electioneer after first Prima r) as effectually prevented from goQ ing abroad to correct them as if Ihfad been chained to my door post. It is true that some of my friends, without: my instigation, tried in the eleventh hour to correct the false reports and counteract their influence; but new and absurd reports were sprung in the Salem section of the county, which had the effect to cast the alos en tire vote of that section ngainst me.: For the originators a:.i authors of: these falsehoods I have a contempt, and charge them to produce the evi-: dence to prove asingle one of them. None of the above has any reux - ence to Mr. E. Ri. Plowden. I know Mr. Plowden to be a gentleman in ev e- roeet, and one who holds his o or dearcr than his lire. g1ve him my vote in Ithe two late Primaries and will take grcat pleas ire in supporting him in the future.
