The syne is true more or less o- c/ery county in the state. We need to grow more of the things that we need, but there is no use to talk about growing .them when .*?ur people send off to other starts and buy fr >ni these states in preference to buying what our own people gro?v. And :hat is very frequently the Newberry county couM grow all the tomatoes that cojM be consumed by all the people of the county, and yet you may go to any store m tois town where they deal in thes^ things and you will see The shelves lined with canned tomatoes grown and put up at some far off place. And the same is true of all th? cannel goods that we see offered for sale, and the fault is with the i-onsumer, mstea J of giving preference for our home made; articles he will buy th" voreign t?ut ? ?z? : ? ? Up every u:ue. ou uirir ir.tu vi education all along the lin.? and along all lines. | This is a good time to p'ow the land and sow the grain. Aid it is a good time to use the split lou* drag and the scarifier and the scrape cn the public roads, and these instruments could do a rel service on some of the roads that are off from the \ main highways. Some of these roads are in great need of a doctor. ? _ The great state fair is to be on in Columbia next week. This is a great reunion week for the people of the state, and we have always been a great believc-r in the fair and adv'se every one who can to go at least one day and take all the familyl, that is all who are old enough to take in and appreciate the trip. It is a great thing for \he people of the state to get together on occasion. Of course since the day of the automobile and better roads the people are not ear so far apart as they were before that time. If the "Christian" powers did not have so many Mohamedan "subjects" in conquered " territory, the Turks would not have such a free hand in butchering Christians. \ If the "forty thieves'7 had passed a steal like the Fordney-McCumber tariff bill their captain would have had conscience enough to veto it.
