Newerrians and Those Who
Visit Newberry
Mr. and Mrs. Carpenter returned
last week from the stylish and fashionable
millinery and ready-tc-wear
Tvtarl-pr<; nrenared to sDrins: upon the

public this early fall, a display daz-;
zling to the eye, pleasing to the mind
and satisfying to the means of the
individual customer.
That was quick work in the repairing
of the bridge at the crossing
from Wheeler street into Lindsay,
street so soon after the storm which
damaged it, and if Supervisor Joe
W. Werts has put the other'streets;
in as jarood condition as he has again
put the street from Dr. Weeks' residence
to the base of Lindsay hill,
then the city indeed looks good from;

Speaking of the Civic league and j
trees, here is an item floating "about
the state: "Marion county has a wal-'
nut tree, on the Marion-Dillon highway,
about five miles from Marion,!
that owns itself. The deed was
made by a tree-loving colored man
Daniel Covington, who died a few
years ago." It is a pleasure to read
of tree loving men and we are sure
it is a pleasure also to the "ladies of
the Newberry Civic league.
After the meeting in Pickens next
Saturday the congressional candidates
will speak at Walhalla on the
succeeding Saturday, when the official
oampaign in that contest closes.
On to L. C. Pitts' today, Tuesday,'
for"the county campaign. Then next
stop, Pomaria, Friday.
Remarking about the cool spell)
last week, it is not to Toe forgotten
that from time immemorial we all
have heard and read of "a cold dfey
in August," so what is there to won-,

from a visit to relatives in Greenville.
She joined a party in that

You remember how you were thrilled
with thp hpfliitv of the mountains as
first you saw them in the distance
from the train bearing you to the desired
place? And how you enjoyed
the magnificence and grandeur as
you looked from one mountain peak
to another and your eyes beheld the

of heavy weight and large measurements.
