Dr. Babcock was a man of senti

were written by Dr. Babcoek. He :

South Carolina was one of the first
states to care for its unfortunates.
His papers on pellagra were widely
read and quoted; one of the outstand-:;
i lg of these productions was entitled

Dr. Babcock married Miss Kather5ne
Guion of Charlotte, who, with
three daughters, survives.. The daugrh- .

Of a highly sensitive and shrinking

to appreciate him. He was devoted to
his profession and his friends. To his ;

time was hostile to the South he was
always strong and loy.il in his love for
all that pertained to her, and his love
never faltered. He was ever ready to
defend her course and to recall her .
splendid history. His whole life was

minds had been darkened and from
whom the light of reason had been cut i
off. His great heart was ever in sym- J
pathy with the afflicted and those who j
