Baltimore. Mr. Ralph E. Mills, after quitting li-fo in tho citv and returning to his farm work on R. F. P. Xo. has built a large dairy barn on his present premises. This up-to-date improvement is in keeping with the activities of his make-up, for while Ralph was at his busy business within the corporate limits of this municipality he proved himself to be a 1 ? His successor in the city is Mr. Arthur Leitzsey. who is following in the truck prints of Mr. Mills all right. Miss Marie Long, after an extended visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Long, has returned to the home of her grandfather in Camden. Attorney X. W. Workman nas been appointed referee in bankruptcy by Judge Watkins. His Honor didn't err in making this appointment. The Johnson-McCrackin company of Newberry has been chartered with a capital stock of $50,000. The firm will conduct a general mercantile business. Officers are: J. Duncan Johnson, president; J. Thaddeus Mc Crackin, vice president, secretary ar.ci treasurer. A strong: firm is the Johnson-McCrackin company. E. H. Auil is back from Charleston where he has been on business.?From Twenty Years Ago, The State, March 1. Upon seeing: the statement that 120.000 dozen eg:g:s were shipped from outside the state to Greenwood every month, a prominent and active young business man of Newberry figured it out that, according to the population claimed for Greenwood, it would be 144 eggs monthly to every person in that city as, from the claim, 1,440.000 eggs are shipped yearly from outside the state to Greenwood. And this is not counting the eggs produced by the hens of the citv and county. Greenwood is cer tainly some egg place. Lt. Roy Cannon of the Reserve corps expects to return to Sumter Monday, if the weather is favorable. The legislature passed over the governor's veto the resolution extending the time for paying tax to the first of Seotember. The sentiment of the legislature was very strongly in favor of the extension judging by the large vote by which the resolution was passed over the veto. A bridge and rook tournament will be he:d Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the residence of Mrs. -T. H. Summer by the Newberry Co-eds club, and 25 cents for each player will be charged. The Ladies Missionary Society of Central Methodist chui -h will meet Monday afternoon at 4 c' lock at the church. The Drayton-Rutherfo"d chapter, U. D. C\, will meet at the home of Mrs. J. L. Keitt next Wednesday afternoon, March 8th, at 4 o'clock. On account of week of prayer services on Tuesday, the regular day of the meeting, the dale was changed to Wednesday. I Washington's Birthday Party On last Wednesday evening besse Ward entertained several of his friends at his home in Caldwell street with a Washington's birthday party.
