G. Clark . The following is an account of tha death of Mrs. J. B. Keel's father,! Mr. M. G. Clark, who died in Spar- ' tanburg January 23., 1922. Mr. Clark ; has visited Newberry and had many! friends here. M. G. Clark, one of the oldest and nost prominent citizens of the New . 'rospect community, died on Mon- i ay morning, January 23, at about 3 o'clock, at his home on South Pacolct. j ie was born May 7, 1837. and would have been 85 years old at his next birthday. His entire life has been :-pent in this community, having: been born within one mile of his present home. His health has been delicate ! for several months, yet his sudden ; death, caused from heart trouble, ame as a great shock to his many friends. Mr. Clark was married January 18, 1366, to Miss Lethea Carpenter of; Mills Spring, X. C., having just com-: dieted 56 years of married life last WpfJnp.cHav. He served for a while as a member of Co. F. 13th S. C. V. Besides his wife he is survived by he following sons and daughters: 0. J. Clark of New Prospect ; S. P. Claik of Inman; Mrs. J. B. Neel fo Newberry; Dr. N. T. Clarke and Mrs. W. W. iJrannon of Spartanburg; Mrs. J. W. Keel of Rocky Mount, X. C. The deceased was one of the most j extensive landwoners in this section having over 2200 acres. Philips, his present pastor, assisted by the Rev. Ernest Merchant and Mr. O'Xeil. Following the services at the home the funeral was concluded at the grave by Chapter 143 of the Masonic order of New /-vf urVki/tb \Tr dai-lr Vinrl I ivopctli V L nuivu ^ 4 V.... been a long and loyal member, assisted by the Inman and Spartanburg lodges. Both at the home -and at the grave there was a large number of lifelong friends to pay honor and tribute tc their departed friend, < ounsellor and adviser. Xo one in the county was held in higher esteem or loved by those who knew him more than Mr Clark. His long:, noble and usefu' life was an open book with an example full of inspiration and worthy ol emulation for a high standard of correct living. Such is the monumenl left by the life of this noble and just man.
