HE LAW AS TO THE SALE
OF MEATS IN NEWBERRY
Since there has seemed to be con-:
iderable misunderstanding on the |
art of a number of people, particu-'
u iy among our farmers, as to the;
tie of fresh meats in the city of New- j
.>rry, I am authorized by the coun- !
il to make the following statement;
; to the law.
Regular butchers, and those en- j
aged in the buying and selling of j
eats for profit, are required to pay j
tv license and the animals slaugh?red
by them are to be slaughtered
t a sanitary butcher-pen under the j
ipervision of the board of health. ;
Farmers have the right to sell j
esh meats cf any kind, as well as j
ly other products of the farm, grown
* produced by them, in the city of >
ewberry at any time without 'the \
lyment of any license. And farmers
re not required to have their animals
aughtered at any particular butcher
;n. Of course, a farmer cannot buy
nimals or produce to sell at retail!
ithout paying the regular license.
The law as to the sale of any disised
or unwholesome meat, or, other
>odstuff, applies to all persons and
Lere is a heavy penalty for violation J
F the law. The health authorities j
ive the right at any time to require j
1 examination and inspection of any !
eat or produce suspected to be uisised
or unwholesome.
I trust this statement will be unerstood
by all and that our farmers
ill not hesitate to bring their meats
nd produce to Newberry for sale,
may add that we request them to coDerate
with the officials of the city in
^forcing the laws as to the prevenon
of the sale of diseased meats.
Respectfully,
Eugene S. Bease, Mayor.
