Here I might state that as a general rule nothing does well in water except paper white nareissa? and Chinese sacred lilies and hyacinths, the latter, However, on account of their slow growth* quite often Ko-f rro K1 nnm i n cr ^ vi.] a l*'J much * VV fc/V* VI V ^ w safer when planted in earth or bulb fibre. Paper whites bloom in about 5 "Wflfeks and there is very little chance fw decay to set in before the blooming time is over for them. For all other bulbs such as crocus, tulips, hyacinths, Octob?r is soon eaoogh to set them out and bulb planting done before October is quite often unsuccessfully done and the re' gults are very often discouraging. The bulbs this season are reported by the importers to be of good quality and those coming to the United States are the finest of the crop, on account of this country being more able to pay for bulbs. With the exchange rate in our favor we are getting tne best of the Holland and France crops. Local bulb growers might be interested in knowing that-oar department of agriculture has bought a large - traict of land in the state of Washington and are there experimenting with the growing of all kinds of bulbs. If this" project is, successful there will no longer be the need to go to Holland and France for our bulbs. I have read reports of this experiment and have seen photographs of the work and it promises to be a greal success. It is said that the soil anc climate selected is just that which is to be found in the finest bulb districts of Holland. Maybe the reason why people like the silent drama is that it does no1 interfere with their discussion of th< iky- _ i. j-' >'WEDGWOOD NOWELL > FEATURED IN "81: > Noted American Actor Scores Arsene Lupin Story by Maurice Lcblanc "813," an Arsene Lupin story 1 "jthe famous French author Mauri 11 Leblanc, has been picturized and r "i leased by Robertson-Cole as a supe ', special.
