GEORGE S. MOWER Resolutions of Delmar Reunion offered by C. J. Ramage, Esq. I wish to express the sense of this feathering of Summerlard and Newberry college"-people of the deep loss we have sustained in the death of Hon. -Geo. S. Mowey, so long a member of the board of trustees and always the friend of the faculty and student body. Though belonging to another denomination, has has placed the Lutheran church in Sou: Carolina and Georgia under a lastng debt of obligation by the assistance he has always cheerfully supplied in every way in his power. His Christian love was so broad that it embraced every worthy cause; it would have been impossible for Dr. Mower to have harbored any feeling in his breast save that which was gdod, fine, noble and elevating. To quote tlie words of Daniel Webster as annlied to Calhoun: Nothing ?*r ? ? low or meanly selfish ever came near the head or. heart of George S. Mower. Rich and poor, black and wnitte, .***. -? high and low all mingled their teais around his open grave. No man ever exemplified in his own Hip to a greater degree the sacred j&e^ning. of friendship. With a nature. as open as the day and' with a hfeaH of melting charity, it is no wonder that Mr. Mower was beloved by all*' He was so genial, gentle and cordial. His face was an index of the character of the nan?nothing dark or bidden there. His sympathies were so human and broad. To him every - * i 1 a. _ 1 man was maeea ana in trutn a uiuthtr. j)jr.. Frank 5- Harrison of Abbeville stated that Mr. Mower was the bist lovdfl man in the Masonic fraternity in this state. His beaming face, his cheery smile, his hearty hand grasp, his kindly voice are *now a treasured gieipory with all of us.^ fie is absent in the flesh but his work arid influence abide. George S. Mowfer in tbe spirit land will need-no kind ef purification to *it hm for companionship with the good. He leaves a fragrant memory of ^ood deeds, kind words and token of friendship. He could look forward to m untried and unknown with no sort ; of misgiying. The splendid old pagan1 TtMlncnnhpr s'aidr "For the 9rood man! ywywrpv ? - ,, ihfeTe c$n be no iear."
