Twelve tabVs of rook were played on the cool, shady lawn which was an ideal setting for this pretty party. The color motif of pink and white was carried out in the attractive scorecards and in the delicious block /**%!? a urV? i/>V? ixroc COrVpH v;i cam anu vans mnvu ?uu . The cream was cut by Miss Mamie rooks and Mr. H. M. Boozer and the refreshments were served from the porch by four young ladies: Misses Julia Summer, Minnie Morris, Marguerite Boozer and Anita Boozer. The party was a most delightful one in all of its details and in the late afternoon the guests reluctantly departed for their homes. MRS E. C. LANE HONORED WITU RlPTHnAY PEI.ER RATION Mrs. E. C. Lane, who has just passed the 76th milestone on life's journey, was honored with a dining at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. D. Whitaker on June 10th, to celebrate her birthday. The home was beautiful in its simplicity of decorations and was a scene of loveliness. The' ta'ble on -the long back porch' had as a centerpiece a massive bowl of nasturtiums and was lavishly spread with many good things j to eat of all kinds. The dinner was} served at one o'clock in the day and' was a most enjoyable event for the; relatives and immediate members of! Mrs. Lane's family who were present, j The love and devotion that is felt j v- for this deafr lady who is going down the sunset trail was- evidenced in the many lovely gifts which were presented to her on this occasion and each gift carried with it the wish that she 5 would have many1 more happy birthday celebrations among those who love her best! The regular monthly meeting of ; the Bachelor Maids was held Tuesday j afternoon with Misses Leila and Sudie Dennis at their home in Cornelia * j street. The business session .was presided: over by Miss Blanche Davidson, pres-; ident of the organization. Among j other business it was decideu to sell i ice cream for the purpose of raising j funds and the following committee i was appointed to make arrangements for the sale: Miss Rosalyn Hipp,' chairman, Miss Margaret Renwick; and Miss Sudie Dennis. At the close of the business meet-j ing an hour of social intercourse and , conversation was enjoyed, at which time the hostesses served a delicious j course of peach cream and cake. Harry Summer, who *were married last Thursday in Greenville, have arrived in Columbia! and are located for the summer at, No. 7 Gibbes Court with Mr. Summer's cousins, Mr. and Mrs. David Caldwell. j The bride was' Miss Marguerite Spearman, a graduate from the recent commencement from Winthrop .college. They were married with a simple ceremony last Thursday in Greenville. Mr. Summer is a well known younjr insurance man, being: connected with S. A. Irby in the Guardian Life Insurance company. Melton-Phillips. At the residence of the bride's mother, Mrs. E. E. Melton, in Helena, on Tuesday evening: at 7:45 o'clock, the Rev. E. V. Babb of the First Baptist church of Newberry performed the ceremony uniting in holy wen lock Miss Louise Frances Melton ot Helena and Mr. Richard Wiley Phillips of Augusta. The lovely home was decorated -with smilax and cut flowers and a color scheme of pink and white was carried out. The bride was attended by Miss Isabel Phillips, sister of the groom, of Rock Hill, Miss Lina Melton, sister of the bride. Miss Mary Klettner, the bride's cousin. COLLEGE FOLK ENJOY INFORMAL DANCE ) On Tuesday evening about fifty young people including those who have reecntly returned from schools and colleges, as well as other members of the younger set, gathered at the home of Mrs. L. W. Floyd for an informal dance. These young people, ever certain of a welcomeLat this hospitable home, simply "dropped in" and passed a merry evening in dancing on the spacious veranda of Mrs. Floyd's beautiful mansion. At either end of the veranda a bowl of fruit nectar was placed for the refresh - - * -Li- - mejit of the dancers during uie evening. v ROOK PARTY GIVEN IN HONOR OF VISITOR ! Mrs. Elmer Summer entertained with six tables of rook on Tuesday afternoon, complimentary to Mrs. R. E. Hannah of Cheraw, who is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Summer. Mule Broke Loose and Played A mule, harnessed to a comparatively new $150 rubber tire top buggy, property of Mr. John Banks and hitched in the vacant lot near the corner of Main and Thompson streets Tuesday afternoon, became frightened at an approaching truck and broke loose. Running around in a circle for a while the mule finally managed to wreck the buggy.
